BWW Feature: Dayton Theatre this week

So sorry that I am running late on the column this week.  It has been a very emotional week, not only for me, but for many Daytonians as it was the anniversary of the shooting in the Oregon District, unquestionably one of the most difficult times in our citya??s history.  It has been hard to think of much else but trying to shake it off and focus on how Dayton is moving forward.  I would love to be in a theatre right now, energized the performances and the audience. As cheesy as it  sounds, theatre is what feeds my soul, and I am feeling a little weak without it.  Fortunately, there are some upcoming virtual events to help us all on our journey without live theatre.

BWW Review: VIOLET at Dare 2 Defy Productions

VIOLET, music by Jeanine Tesori and lyrics/book by Brian Crawley, opened on Broadway in 2014.  It is the story of Violet, a young woman with a disfigured face, on a quest for a miracle to heal her scars and therefore, solve all of her problems.  On the way, she learns that outward appearances are not always what they seem and to find true happiness, you have to look beyond what you see.

Photo Coverage: First look at Warehouse Theatre Columbus' BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON

A.J. kicked British butt, shafted the Indians and smacked down the Spaniards, all in the name of these United States - who cares if he didn't have permission? Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson creators, Michael Friedman (Love's Labour's Lost, The Fortress of Solitude) and Alex Timbers (Love's Labour's Lost, Peter and the Starcatcher), cook up an alternate universe (and draw parallels to today's political/populist landscape) with their musical about the seventh U.S. president. PERFORMANCE DATES: June 21 - 30th at The Franklinton Playhouse, 566 W. Rich St., for tickets or more info visit: https://www.warehousetheatre.org/
