Preview: KAVALIER & CLAY Brings Three Sound Worlds to Met Season-Opener

The forces behind the Met’s latest try at bringing a different (sic: younger) audience to the house, THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF KAVALIER & CLAY, joined forces at the Guggenheim’s Works & Process series last week to introduce the new work to a receptive crowd. It’s the story of two Jewish cousins who team up in Brooklyn to create a comic book superhero, called the Escapist, to fight Hitler and the forces of fascism, “a story that unfortunately has extra resonance right now,” according to Met General Manager Peter Gelb. It brings three sound worlds--traditional, swing and electronica--to the Met’s season-opener.

Works & Process Will Present THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF KAVALIER & CLAY at the Guggenheim

Works & Process at the Guggenheim will present an advance look at the Metropolitan Opera’s The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay on September 8, 2025. Featuring composer Mason Bates, librettist Gene Scheer, director Bartlett Sher, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and Met General Manager Peter Gelb, the evening includes performances of highlights from the opera and a post-show reception.

Review: Going for Baroque with ENLIGHTENMENT and BULLOCK

The 17th and 18th centuries rode roughshod over the programming at the 92NY the other night, when that brilliant British baroque ensemble, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and superb guest soloist, soprano Julia Bullock, bathed the audience in the warmth of what itself acknowledged was a lineup of ‘chestnuts.’
