Moorestown High School Theater presents a delightful production of Michael Stewart's Tony Award-winning Broadway smash Bye Bye Birdie- and let me say it -Broadway versions have nothing on this outing directed and choreographed by Erica Scanlon Harr.

BWW Review: Teenage Demigods On A Quest in THE LIGHTNING THIEF: THE PERCY JACKSON MUSICAL

The preteens dressed in their matinee finest seemed to be having a swell time when this critic attended The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical. So really, if this review seems less than enthusiastic, it's written with the full understanding that pleasing an overly-seasoned playgoer who, until recently, thought this was going to be a jukebox musical about some songwriter named Percy Jackson, is not a priority.

The show has been described as a musical with 'one foot in Harry Potter and another in Dear Evan Hansen by the Chicago Tribune. This adaptation is actually based on a book series by Rick Riordan.

BWW Review: THE LIGHTNING THIEF at the 5th Ave is Fun and Frothy ... If You're Twelve

Dear Readers, I am not the intended audience for 'The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical', currently playing at the 5th Avenue Theatre, and if you're over the age of twelve and a musical theater aficionado like me, I suspect it's not for you either. However, if you are indeed a pre-teen or younger or a parent looking for something to thrill your kids or maybe even give them an introduction to theater, this may be perfect for you. Because of that, we're going to have two reviews in one here. One to point out why I think it appealed to kids and one to explain why I couldn't leave the theater fast enough.
