A romantic comedy with a twist, written by Nancy Harris and directed by Wayne Jordan, Somewhere Out There You makes its world premiere on the Abbey stage. It will be joined by Ironbound, a wry and stirring portrait of a woman navigating the perils and possibilities of a radically changing world, which has its Irish premiere on the Peacock stage.

A theater scholar and maker, Nakase lived in Ireland for ten years before moving to Portland in 2019. She received her PhD in race and Irish performance at the National University of Ireland, Galway and currently teaches at Portland State University. She is also the co‑editor of the two‑volume edited collection The Golden Thread: Irish Women Playwrights, 1716-2016, published by Liverpool University Press.
Edgerton Foundation New Play Awards Announce First Round of 2021 Recipients

Theatre Communications Group has announced the recipients of the first round of the 2021 Edgerton Foundation New Play Awards. The awards, totaling $1,072,000, allow 28 productions extra time for the development and rehearsal of new plays with the entire creative team, hoping to extend the life of the world premiere play after its first run.

Over four nights (28 April - 1 May), audiences throughout Ireland and across the globe can watch the world premiere of Dear Ireland a?" a historic digital theatre project that brings together 50 brand new monologues, commissioned by the Abbey Theatre as a rapid response to the COVID-19 crisis. At the G7 summit last month, the wives of the world leaders were pictured together by Donald Tusk walking not across a zebra crossing as per The Beatles but through a garden. Tusk's caption described them as “the light side of the Force.” Yet, this picture did little to suggest these women were anything like the feisty Princess Leia, the colour of their clothing – a mix of yellow, red, pink and white – unhelpfully instead suggesting they were flowers.
