Northrop announced its 2019-20 Season today, featuring its signature Dance Series comprising 10 renowned dance companies in performances ranging from The Great Gatsby to George Balanchine's famous Jewels, as well as a Music Series that spotlights Northrop's restored pipe organ in concerts by Branford Marsalis with organist Jean-Willy Kunz and the Minnesota Orchestra featuring revolutionary organist Cameron Carpenter. May 13 marks the 25th year the Herb Alpert Award in the Arts (HAAIA) will be presented to five risk-taking, mid-career artists - experimenters - who are challenging and transforming art, their respective disciplines, and society. Founded and conceived by legendary musician, philanthropist and artist Herb Alpert, and his Grammy-winning vocalist wife, Lani Hall in conjunction with the California Institute of the Arts, the HAAIA has been awarded to 125 artists in the five disciplines of dance, film/video, music, theatre and visual arts. Each artist receives a $75,000 unrestricted prize and a one-week residency at CalArts which administers the prize on behalf of the Herb Alpert Foundation.

Explore the past, present, and future of lighting for ballet with visual artist and Boston Ballet lighting director Brandon Stirling Baker. A frequent collaborator with choreographer Justin Peck and a diverse group of artists including Anthony Roth Costanzo, Benjamin Millepied, Sufjan Stevens, Jamar Roberts, Michelle Dorrance, Emery LeCrone, and Shepard Fairey, Baker will present the world premiere developed through the Center for Ballet and the Arts at New York University. Inspired by the close relationship between choreography and lighting design, this program featured new choreography by Jamar Roberts performed by Patricia Delgado, Sarah Daley, and Taylor Stanley.
