Review: ROMÉO ET JULIETTE at Winter Opera
by Steve Callahan
- Mar 2, 2026
Opera is widely considered to be a seasonal flower. Around the world opera festivals show their shoots in early spring, they blossom in the summer, and they stretch their glory into the fall. In St. Louis, though, we find one of the few fine opera companies willing to brave the icy blasts of winter.

Gina Galati’s delightful Winter Opera company has opened its season with a revival of a rarely seen Gilbert and Sullivan show—The Sorcerer. It premiered in 1877, the first of the grandly popular series of light operas by G & S in which the authors had total control over casting and staging.
Review: New Jewish Theatre's TWO JEWS WALK INTO A WAR… is Wryly Amusing
by James Lindhorst
- Jul 25, 2025
Two Jews Walk into a War... is not slapstick or laugh out loud funny. It is more wryly amusing. The humor is abundant. Laughs come from Seth Rozin’s quippy script, Aaron Sparks’ crisp direction and sharp timing, and Gary Glasgow and Chuck Winning’s playful sparring. But Rozin, Sparks, and the actors take the audience beyond the laughs and comedy, leaving them with more. Two Jews Walk into a War... provokes a quieted introspection about faith, ethics, beliefs, responsibility, and the relationships among the members of a community and religious congregation.

Review: TRAYF at The New Jewish Theatre is a Delightful Buddy Romp
by James Lindhorst
- Sep 13, 2024
New Jewish Theatre’s TRAYF is a delight. The remarkable chemistry between Miller and Schmidt is reminiscent of the great comedic acting duos from the buddy comedies of the past. Their contagious energy makes their portrayals of Schulmy and Zalmy endearing and irresistible. The realism that Sparks and his team bring to the production is commendable and creates enjoyable and believable storytelling. TRAYF is a wonderfully warm and winning comedy about friendship, love, and faith.
