Sparks & Wiry Cries Presents Virtual 2021 SongSLAM Festival

From January 11 - 22, 2021, the New York-based global art song platform Sparks & Wiry Cries will present their flagship songSLAM Festival with twelve days of song. The Festival will include the annual songSLAM competition for up to fifteen emerging composer/performer teams to present new art song compositions.

Trustus Theatre Presents Fest24 Homecoming

Trustus Theatre will host FEST24: Homecoming online in October. This virtual experience will provide a new take on the theatre's popular 24-hour theatre event that was last presented in 2018 for a standing-room-only public performance. Six playwrights, six directors, and twenty-four actors will produce six new virtual one-acts over the course of three weekends.

Mastervoices Presents CARMEN With Harnick's English Translation

MasterVoices continues its 2019-20 season on Thursday April 2, at the Rose Theater at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Artistic Director Ted Sperling will lead a concert staging of Bizet's Carmen in its original Opéra Comique version, with dialogue rather than recitative, sung in English translation by award-winning Broadway lyricist Sheldon Harnick. His translation of Carmen was commissioned and premiered by the Houston Grand Opera in 1981 and served as the English text for Peter Brook's ingenious 90-minute La tragédie de Carmen which was performed at the Vivian Beaumont Theater in New York in 1984. The MasterVoices performance will mark the New York premiere of the full translation.

American Traditions Vocal Competition Has Announced 2020 Semifinalists

Last evening at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church (SIUMC), the American Traditions Vocal Competition (ATC) announced this year's group of talented vocalists selected by judges Morgan James, Janis Siegel, and Jubilant Sykes to progress to the Semifinals.

BWW Overview: The People, the Places, the Operas that Spelled Pleasure in 2019

I admit this is an absolutely personal, totally one-sided view of what gave one man opera thrills last year and what I will look back on with delight. Some are old works, some are new, some are individual performers, some are ensembles, some are complete productions, some are merely the highlight of an evening, most are domestic, a few are foreign. In any case, as the new decade begins, I recall that these are the vocal highlights that made my heart beat a little faster and made me look forward to the year ahead.

It is hosted by Emmy Award-winning writer Seth Meyers, who was one of 2014's TIME 100 Most Influential People and named to Variety's 2016 New Power of New York list. Previously, Meyers served as head writer on “Saturday Night Live” and anchor on the show's wildly popular “Weekend Update.” “Late Night with Seth Meyers” was nominated in 2017 for both an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series and a Writers Guild Award.

Quarterfinalists Announced for the 2020 American Traditions Vocal Competition

The 28 quarterfinalists have been announced for the 27th annual American Traditions Vocal Competition (ATC), which is slated to run Feb. 17-21, 2020. The 28 talented vocalists, selected from over 100 applicants, will be competing for $40,000 in prizes, plus special performance opportunities with ATC's partner organizations, Savannah Philharmonic and Savannah VOICE Festival.

Deadline reports that actress Amy Seimetz will play Trisha Anderson in CBS Studios' upcoming miniseries based on James Comey's 'A Higher Loyalty.'
