Collective and Tamizdat join forces to present a timely community conversation exploring the challenges and power of progressive activist theatre. At this cultural moment many in the arts are seeking ways to bring activisminto their work? this symposium will be a platform for sharing ideas and resources. It will inform,empower, recharge, facilitate, and inspire.

La MaMa (Mia Yoo, Artistic Director), the multiple Obie, Drama Desk and Bessie Award-winning Off-Broadway theater, announces the world premiere of The Pill, conceived by Marla Mase and written by The Family. A family memoir featuring original music by composer and producer Tom s Doncker of True Groove, performances of The Pill will begin Thursday, January 25. This strictly limited engagement will play through Sunday, February 4.

Croatia's acclaimed Perforations Festival returns to New York November 17 to 26 with a diverse slate of genre-blurring performances by artists from Central and Eastern Europe. The 2017 festival will feature seven productions over ten days including U.S. premieres by Bruno Isakovic? and Mia Zalukar, Via Negativa, Ina Sladic, Magda Stawman-Tuka and Anita Wach, Jasna L. Vinovr ki, and Marta Zi ?ek. The Great Jones Repertory Company's 2015 work Pylade, directed by Ivica Buljan, will also be presented. Perforations is curated by Zvonimir Dobrovic? and presented by La MaMa with an opening performance at Abrons Arts Center.

An earth-shaking collection of indigenous-feminist performers, bands and performance art groups gathered at La MaMa on Tuesday for an impassioned celebration of Spiderwoman, the world's longest-running Native American theatre company, and one of America's longest continuously active feminist performance collectives. American playwright, actor, author, and director, Sam Shepard - who died on July 27, 2017 and was a prominent playwright during the early years of the Off-Off-Broadway movement in the 60's and 70's - will be remembered at one of the theatres he regularly called home during that era, La MaMa, on October 7 at 3 pm at the Ellen Stewart Theatre (66 E. 4 St.) in New York City.  

Over 50 productions of local and international artists will visit the stages of La MaMa during the 2017-2018 season. La MaMa's 56th season highlights artists of different generations, gender identities, and cultural backgrounds, who question social mores and confront stereotypes, corruption, bigotry, racism, and xenophobia in their work.

One of the city's oldest, continuously operating theater companies, La MaMa, celebrated the conclusion of its 55th season, and announced the $15 million renovation of its New York City landmark building at 74 East 4th Street in Manhattan with "Dancing in The Street", a BLOCK PARTY on Saturday, May 20th from 11AM to 4PM. La MaMa will celebrate the conclusion of its 55th with "Dancing in The Street", a BLOCK PARTY on Saturday, May 20th from 11AM to 4PM in front of La MaMa's theatres on East 4th Street between Second Ave. and the Bowery (Ellen Stewart Way), it has been announced by Mia Yoo, La MaMa's artistic director. 

The welcome mat for artists from the four corners of the globe has shone brightly at La MaMa's theater entryway for 55 years, and for the past 12, the welcome has been extended to choreographers and dancers participating in the La MaMa Moves! Dance Festival, which this season includes 17 dance companies and artists whose work asks important questions about the conditions of the world in which we are now living. The 2017 festival runs May 18-June 4.

La MaMa will celebrate the conclusion of its 55th with 'Dancing in The Street,' a BLOCK PARTY on Saturday, May 20th from 11AM to 4PM in front of La MaMa's theatres on East 4th Street between Second Ave. and the Bowery (Ellen Stewart Way), it has been announced by Mia Yoo, La MaMa's artistic director. 

Joining in the opening night festivities for The Last Days of Judas Iscariot at The Ellen Stewart Theatre at La MaMa (66 East 4th Street): Ellen Burstyn, Co-President of the Actors Studio; Carla Hoke-Miller, Director of Theatrical Partnerships for the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment; Ruben Blades; Lee Grant; Michael Aranov (OSLO); Valda Setterfield; Patricia Bosworth; Margaret Colin; and many others. This limited Off-Broadway engagement continues through March 26th.   The Last Days of Judas Iscariot is enjoying an extended run at La Mama after being developed at the Actors Studio as part of the Theater & Social Justice program, using Actors Studio members.     

A series of short plays by Robert Patrick - author of the forward-thinking dramas CAMERA OBSCURA and ALL IN THE MIND, minimalist works from the 1960s and 1970s that questioned the future and presciently foreshadowed the cyber web we live in today - will be presented together as an evening-length work that immerses the viewer in technologies that were science fiction when the plays were originally written.

New plays by Neil LaBute, Marta Buchaca and Marco Calvani - leading writers/directors representing contemporary voices in drama in the U.S., Spain and Italy, respectively - will be given their U.S. debuts in the 3rd edition of the ambitious, provocative series of one-act plays, AdA: AUTHOR DIRECTING AUTHOR, running Off-Broadway at La MaMa's Ellen Stewart Theatre (66 E. 4 St. NYC) with previews starting January 19, 2017 prior to opening January 23. Ada: AUTHOR DIRECTING AUTHOR is a unique evening of theater: the three playwrights direct one another's work.
