It was a like coming home with Chita Rivera full circle and approaching a kind of comfortable closure when I attended the Signature Theatre’s Sondheim Award Gala 2023 honoring the Broadway legend Chita Rivera at the Italian Embassy in Washington. DC.  The iconic legend of theatrical music and dance (What a dancer she is!) was feted with the prestigious award from Signature Theatre and a warm response from a very “Chita-friendly” roster of performers and an audience of patrons, fans and supporters. (Rivera has also won about every award in the book including two Tony Awards, a special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Kennedy Center Honor).

Gingold Theatrical Group will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with an Irish Poetry Slam, held on Friday March 17, 2023, from 6:00-7:30pm ET.

BroadwayWorld has just learned that The Entertainment Community Fund presentation of  All That Jazz: A Celebration of the Legendary Chita Rivera, has been postponed.

On Tuesday, February 14, Atlantic Theater Company celebrated the Opening Night of Cornelia Street, a world premiere musical with a book by Tony Award winner Simon Stephens, music and lyrics by Mark Eitzel, choreography by two-time “Bessie Award” winner Hope Boykin, and directed by Tony Award nominee Neil Pepe. Atlantic Theater Company (Neil Pepe, Artistic Director; Jeffory Lawson, Managing Director) has announced an extension for the world premiere musical Cornelia Street. The production, which will begin performances this Friday, January 20th and open on Tuesday, February 14th, will now play through Sunday, March 5th, Off-Broadway at Atlantic Stage 2.

The winners have been announced for the 2022 BroadwayWorld Berkshires Awards, honoring the best in regional productions, touring shows, and more which had their first performance between October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022.
