BWW Previews: Matt Manuel from MOTOWN THE MUSICAL opening tonight at Place Des Arts - Salle Wilfred-Pelltier, through 6/24
by Noelle Hannibal
- Jun 19, 2018
Matt Manuel was born and raised in Detroit, MI, 'the heart of Motown.' He got his start as a competitive gymnast. When he was 13, he had to quit gymnastics, which he says broke his heart. His mother convinced him to try a piano lesson while his brother took a voice lesson. The teacher accidentally switched their lessons, which made Manuel realize he could sing. He studied theatre in high school, but once in college, focused more on vocal performance, so he would be classically trained. He was a contestant on season 13 of AMERICAN IDOL, which jump started his career. Since then, he has never stopped working. Manuel plays Marvin Gaye in MOTOWN THE MUSICAL. I had the chance to speak with him while MOTOWN recently had a tour stop in Boston, MA.
Emerging Artist, Jordan Siwek, Releases First Single 'Lover And A Giver'
by Julie Musbach
- Jun 13, 2018
A native New Yorker, Jordan Siwek has been playing at some of the most well known venues, showcasing his heartfelt lyrics and lively instrumental. From a young age he has been playing the piano and performing. At the age of 10, he played Gavroche in Les Miserables on Broadway. This experience inspired him to write music and pursue music professionally. With influences in classic rock, blues, and soul, Jordan's songwriting focuses on turning darkness into light, with messages of love, hope, and unity, which is particularly important in these times of division. He is combining all he has learned over the past decade into his debut album, Sun Inside You, out July 13th.
