Anna Deavere Smith's 'NOTES FROM THE FIELD' Opens Tonight at Second Stage

Second Stage Theatre's New York Premiere production of NOTES FROM THE FIELD: DOING TIME IN EDUCATION, the latest work created, written and performed by groundbreaking theatre artist Anna Deavere Smith with music composed and performed by Marcus Shelby and directed by Leonard Foglia, opens tonight, November 2, 2016 at the Tony Kiser Theatre (305 West 43rd Street).

Trio of Off-Broadway Companies to Present THE EVERY 28 HOURS PLAYS

The New Group, Labyrinth Theater Company and Working Theater present selections from The Every 28 Hours Plays, a collection of one-minute plays centered on the current Civil Rights and BlackLivesMatter movements. Set for Monday, November 7, this one-night-only event includes staged readings at 6:00pm and 8:30pm, each followed by a discussion of the issues raised by the plays, and how art/activism can impact the local and national conversation around BlackLivesMatter.

Cast and Creative Team Set for THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA at The Old Globe

The Old Globe today announced the cast and creative team for The Old Globe and University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program presentation of William Shakespeare's The Two Gentlemen of Verona, running November 12 - November 20 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, directed by Richard Seer, Director of Professional Training for the M.F.A. program, as part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Opening night is Saturday, November 12 at 8:00 p.m.

Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj Becomes New Artistic Director of New Freedom Theatre

New Freedom Theatre is pleased to announce the appointment of Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj as its new Artistic Director.  Maharaj, who had served as Guest Artistic Director last season, is only the fourth full-time artistic director in the company's fifty year history, following foundr John E. Allen, Jr., Robert E. Leslie and Walter Dallas.

Lynn Nottage's SWEAT Begins Tonight at The Public

The Public Theater presents the extended New York Premiere of SWEAT by Lynn Nottage. Directed by Kate Whoriskey, SWEAT begins performances tonight, October 18 and was originally scheduled to run through Sunday, November 20. It will now run through Sunday, November 27 with an official press opening on Thursday, November 3.

Trinity Rep Presents Reprise Performance of THE EVERY 28 HOURS PLAYS

Trinity Rep invites the public to revisit the one-minute plays written on the ground in Ferguson, MO and performed at the theater in fall of 2015 to a second community-led performance of The Every 28 Hours Plays on Monday, October 17th at 7:30PM.
