After enjoying its World Premiere engagement earlier this spring at the Playroom Theater, A CLASS ACT, the inaugural and relevant new play by attorney and playwright Norman Shabel, will now hold court at New World Stages - Stage 5 (340 West 50th Street - between 8th & 9th Avenues) for a summer run. Produced by Eric Krebs, performances will begin tonight, July 9 at 8pm and continue through Sunday, September 4. BroadwayWorld has photos from the first rehearsal below! (more...)

MR. TOOLE to Play Midtown International Theatre Festival

Mr. Toole, a new play written by award-winning playwright Vivian Neuwirth will have its World Premiere at The Midtown International Theatre Festival on July 21st. Set against the backdrop of New Orleans, this play is a deeply personal reflection on the life of John Kennedy Toole, author of the Pulitzer Prize Winning, 'A Confederacy of Dunces.' The play was inspired by Vivian's time as a student of Mr. Toole's at St. Mary's Dominican College in New Orleans. (more...)

Rare Revival of ORPHEUS DESCENDING to Open at St. John's Lutheran Church This Spring

A rare revival of Orpheus Descending by Tennessee Williams will run for a limited engagement, April 23-May 14, at St. John's Lutheran Church, one of the oldest buildings in Greenwich Village. Directed by Austin Pendleton, the production features a 16-person cast lead by Irene Glezos, Thomas Beaudoin and Beth Bartley. Williams's modern version of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice opened on Broadway in 1957 and was revived in 1989 in a celebrated production directed by Sir Peter Hall and starring Vanessa Redgrave. It has rarely, if ever, been produced in New York since. (more...)
