The Georgetown Palace Theatre has a reputation for doing the big, classic musicals, those huge shows that are barely contained within the walls of the Springer Stage. In contrast 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE is a modern show with an ensemble cast of just nine actors (a very small cast by Palace standards) it certainly overwhelms in entertainment value.

While Moonlight Youth Theatre's (MYT) upcoming production of the musical comedy 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee' features young talent on stage, behind the scenes, students are also involved backstage in all facets of bringing the show to life. As part of MYT's Theatre Internship program, the reigns of the creative direction of the show are being turned over to students in the program. The show's director, choreographer, design and stage management teams, and all other staff positions are comprised of students. When one says 'student directed' it sends a chill up this reviewer's back, especially within the high school theater community. So, walking into Agoura High School's production of 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee' I wasn't expect much.
