Photo Flash: Iconotheatrix' Production of THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE Brings Fun and Laughs to the Stage

Iconotheatrix presents The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee April 6-15, 2017 at The MATCH (Midtown Arts and Theatre Center Houston). An eclectic group of mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming 'ding' of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box. A riotous ride, complete with audience participation, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a fast-paced, crowd-pleasing, delightful den of comedic genius.

Brelby's 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE is Funny, Heartfelt, and Just Plain Fun

'This show is going to be so unbelievably heartwarming,' said Robards, 'and sad at times, but I think what people are going to love about it is just how genuinely funny it is. There is dry sarcasm mixed with physical humor. On top of all that you have adults acting like obnoxious, overachieving children - many with pretty severe speech pathologies. I'm confident there will be at least three to four I-laughed-so-hard-I-just-wet-my-pants incidents throughout the run of the show,' she giggled.

BWW Review: Sierra Madre Has a Summer Hit with SPELLING BEE

Talk about quirkiness and how it makes a musical rock! The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is terribly funny in a smart, slick, offbeat manner with prize worthy characterizations of lively eclectic people. It may be a tad long like the actual spelling out of words (that are not to be believed!)yet the exaggeration and contestants' varied reactions give rise to some great comic moments...and I love the audience involvement! Some of the contestants are picked from the audience and their ad-libs lend one.of.a.kind hilarity. The unpredictability in denouement is another big plus in the overall enjoyment of the show. It's like a real contest. Who will win is anybody's guess!
