BWW Review: TWELFTH NIGHT at Shakespeare Theatre Company

The Shakespeare Theatre Company's TWELFTH NIGHT is a fresh look at a familiar story a bit darker with less over-the-top mirth. It is well worth revisiting Shakespeare's comedy for a new take on the familiar story.

BWW Review: August Wilson's GEM OF THE OCEAN Gets Exquisite New Staging at South Coast Repertory

Riding the wave of renewed interest in August Wilson's 10 play, American Century Cycle, South Coast Repertory has one particular Wilson drama on their sonar at the moment: GEM OF THE OCEAN, the riveting, epic-sized 2003 drama now continuing at the Costa Mesa theater through November 11. An exquisitely rendered, mesmerizing production superbly directed by Kent Gash and featuring a truly impressive, excellent ensemble cast, SCR's new regional production of GEM OF THE OCEAN combines a bountiful interweaving of historical references, personal and emotionally-tinged character confessionals, and mystical, magical elements to fashion one of the most fascinating and engaging works of drama I have experienced in this Tony Award-winning regional theater.

BWW Review: A GUIDE FOR THE HOMESICK: A Haunting World Premiere

Playwright Ken Urban was commissioned by Epic Theatre Ensemble to write a play about international aid workers, and his interviews with volunteers for Doctors Without Borders inform his new thought-provoking drama, A GUIDE FOR THE HOMESICK, now receiving its world premiere by the Huntington Theatre Company at the Boston Center for the Arts. Flawlessly directed by Colman Domingo, the two-hander features a pair of remarkable, synchronized performances by McKinley Belcher III and Samuel H. Levine.

BWW Review: Denver Center's MACBETH Stimulates... Everything

It won't even feel like Shakespeare! I'd told my fianc , who bowed out of this production because he thought he'd fall asleep. Granted, there would be no sleeping during the current Denver Center Theatre Company's production of Macbeth.

BWW Review: NO WAKE at 59E59 Theaters is Affecting Drama

The New York City premiere of No Wake, written by William Donnelly and directed by Veronica Brady is now onstage at 59E59 Theaters through Sunday, October 15. This is an affecting drama, one that truly captures the emotions of people who are dealing with an indescribable tragedy.
