The Metropolitan Opera today announced its 2022–23 season, which features seven new productions, the most in ten seasons. Opening Night is September 27 with the company premiere of Cherubini’s Medea, starring soprano Sondra Radvanovsky in the title role alongside tenor Matthew Polenzani in David McVicar’s new staging, conducted by Carlo Rizzi.

The Metropolitan Opera will welcome back its youngest opera lovers with a family-friendly holiday presentation of Mozart’s The Magic Flute for nine performances December 10, 2021–January 5, 2022. This English-language adaptation of the classic fairy tale, performed in a 115-minute abridged version, is a holiday treat for audiences of all ages.

Aleksandra Olczyk will replace Kathryn Lewek as the Queen of the Night in performances on September 20, 22, 25, and 30, as well as October 4 and 7, 2021. Additionally, Bernard Richter will replace Daniel Behle in the role of Tamino on September 15, 17, 20, 23, 30, and October 4. On September 18, 22, and 24, Daniel Behle will replace Bernard Richter as Tamino.
The Met Announces Two-Week Schedule for Nightly Met Opera Streams Featuring TURANDOT and More

The schedule includes a week entitled From Page to Stage, featuring operas based on works by some of history’s great writers, and a week of fairy-tale operas entitled Once Upon a Time. The 1987 telecast of Puccini’s Turandot, with Eva Marton, Leona Mitchell, Plácido Domingo, and Paul Plishka, will be streamed for the first time on April 17.
