Young People's Theatre Workshop Moves Class Online For Fall Season

Young People's Theatre Workshop, or YPTW, has been training young actors in the theatre arts in Delaware County, Pennsylvania since 1978. Although a relatively small program, it boasts some illustrious alumni including Kait Kerrigan, Brian Lowdermilk, and Josh Young. Like many theatre arts programs, classes this fall will happen online.

The Lucille Lortel Theatre Foundation Has Announced the NYC Public High School Student Playwriting Fellowship

The Lucille Lortel Theatre Foundation has announced the NYC Public High School Student Playwriting Fellowship, created as an opportunity for young writers citywide to get unparalleled access to New York City professional artists for mentoring. The inaugural Lortel student Fellows and finalists - representing every Borough, as well as D75 and D79 school districts - submitted original 10-minute one-act plays and were selected by a panel of playwrights, directors, and literary managers including Kareem Fahmy, Seri Lawrence, Cori Thomas, Mark Wade, and Cary Wong. Fellows will meet with a playwright mentor to discuss their play and learn more about playwriting as a career. Playwright mentors for this group of teen playwrights are Joshua Harmon, Kait Kerrigan, Sylvia Khoury, and Rehana Lew Mirza. All plays will be presented in a special one-night-only performance at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street) on March 24, 2020. Kimille Howard will direct.

UnsungMusicalsCo. (Ben West, Artistic Director) closes out its 2019 season with a benefit concert of The Passing Show of 2019, a new musical revue celebrating and satirizing the social and cultural happenings of the past year featuring sketches and songs written by college students and emerging writers. The one-night-only event will be presented on Monday, December 16, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at The Irene Diamond Stage at the Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street).

Playwrights Foundation Names New Executive Artistic Director Jessica Bird Beza

Playwrights Foundation announces the appointment of Jessica Bird Beza as Executive Artistic Director for the 43 year-old San Francisco Bay Area arts organization. She brings a range of executive and artistic experience to the position, including serving in leadership roles with The Old Globe, La Jolla Playhouse and Mo'olelo Performing Arts Company, producing three different new play festivals and directing at San Diego REP, La Jolla Playhouse and Theatreworks Silicon Valley.
