Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute (WMI) has announced that a new series of concerts exploring the impact that live music can have on individual and collective well-being has been added to its 2023–2024 season.

It’s rather surprising, really, for the audience to embrace a contemporary piece like DEAD MAN WALKING, no matter how easily it falls upon the ears, considering the subject matter. In this Ivo van Hove production, it starts with a rape and double murder in a rather graphic piece of film, the use of video being one of van Hove’s trademarks. It ends with a death by lethal injection, also graphically shown in live video.

Dead Man Walking will be presented at Greenbrier Valley Theatre in November. By Jake Heggie with a libretto by Terrence McNally, the event will take place on November 4 at 12:55pm.

The season, which is AVA's 89th, kicks off with a stunning production of Gaetano Donizetti's masterwork Anna Bolena, followed by Benjamin Britten's hauntingly beautiful The Rape of Lucretia and ending with Gioachino Rossini's beloved comic masterpiece, Il barbiere di Siviglia ('The Barber of Seville').
