JAMES TAYLOR: CELEBRATING AN AMERICAN STANDARD to be Presented by Live with Carnegie Hall

On July 1 at 7:30 p.m. Live with Carnegie Hall will present James Taylor: Celebrating an American Standard, featuring a never-before-seen stream of a one-night-only historic performance curated by the renowned singer/songwriter in April 2011 to mark Carnegie Hall’s 120th anniversary, kicking off his four-concert Perspectives series that season.

Kernis wrote this work just one year ago offering music to reflect, mourn, and remember those lost to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it is presented for the first time in this arrangement created especially for Sachs and Kondonassis.

The Met Presents A Live Three- Day Conversation Series About Museums

Tomorrow, May 18, The Metropolitan Museum of Art will host a virtual, three-day, live convening during which scholars, artists, writers, performers, and activists including Sarah Lewis, (Associate Professor of History of Art and Architecture and African and African American Studies at Harvard University); artist Elizabeth Colomba; Samir Meghelli (Senior Curator at the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum); Anupam Sah (Head of Art Conservation, Research, Training at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya); and artist Alexis Peskin will discuss recent shifts in how museums engage and interact with their publics in response to the ongoing pandemic and international calls for social and racial justice.  

Music Institute of Chicago 90th Anniversary Gala Raises $800,000+

Celebrating 90 years of innovation, access, and excellence in music education, the Music Institute of Chicago welcomed more than 450 viewers to its 90th Anniversary Virtual Gala on Monday, May 10. Contributions totaled more than $825,000 from about 250 donors before and during the event, which was free to view.

The Chamber Music Society of Detroit announces the resumption of live concerts with two events in May.  On May 8, Cuban brothers Ilmar Gavilán and Aldo López-Gavilán will perform an evening of Aldo's genre-defying compositions for violin and piano that are rooted in classical, Latin jazz and Afro-Cuban traditions.
