Book Review: DRAMA GAMES FOR CLOWNING AND PHYSICAL COMEDY, Nick Hern Books

Drama Games for Clowning and Physical Comedy, written by Joe Dieffenbacher, is one of a series, Drama Games, which, as one might guess from the title, has a range of different games for one to try in workshops, classes and/or rehearsals rooms, with topics like Shakespeare, young children and even “Those Who Like to Say No.” The goal of this particular book is to “Develop the playful mind (and body) of each Player” through quick-fire resources, teaching the art of the clown to anyone who wants to partake in the activities listed in the different parts.

Review: THE 39 STEPS, Richmond Theatre

Mix a classic spy novel with the genius of Alfred Hitchcock, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps. With a history spanning over 100 years, John Buchan’s 1915 novel was adapted by Alfred Hitchcock which then went on to become a stage play in 1996, adapted again in 2005 by Patrick Barlow to become the an international smash.

Winners Announced for The Jessie Awards

Returning to its theatrical roots this year, the 36th annual Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards were held on Monday, July 16th at Bard on the Beach in the BMO Mainstage in Vanier Park, a fitting venue in a magnificent setting. The awards celebrate excellence in professional theatre and salutes all the talent who contribute to Vancouver's fantastic theatre scene. Thirty-five companies registered over 57 productions this past year contributing to a dynamic theatre season.

Berkshire Native Returns To Present Dance Work At Turnpark

Berkshire native and dancer Gina Bashour, praised by the New York Times as a 'powerhouse,' returns home to the Berkshires this summer as choreographer to premiere a site-specific dance performance entitled Unraveled, presented by TurnPark Art Space in West Stockbridge, Massachusetts. With a strong ensemble of performers, the work weaves together themes and imagery from the fable of Rumpelstiltskin with a current look at the relationships of men and women and the community around them. The performance, suitable for all ages, is being presented on August 25 and 26, 2018, at noon and 3:00 p.m. and is included with admission to TurnPark ($15/adult; $12 for students and seniors; free for TurnPark members and children under 12).
