California Shakespeare Theater Names Sarah Williams New Managing Director

Kate Stechschulte, Board President, along with the Board of Directors of California Shakespeare Theater (Cal Shakes) announce the appointment of Sarah Williams as the company's new Managing Director. Sarah will join the company after Labor Day on September 3, succeeding Interim Managing Director Tirzah Tyler.

Itzhak Perlman Opens The Soraya's 2019/20 Season

Violinist Itzhak Perlman, one of the reigning artists of our day, will make a rare appearance for a recital to inaugurate the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts' 2019-2020 Season on September 19 at 7pm.  Perlman is accompanied by Rohan De Silva, piano.

Uma Thurman to Perform World Premiere of Previn and Stoppard's PENELOPE

The Boston Symphony Orchestra will move forward with presenting the world premiere of Andre Previn and Tom Stoppard's Penelope at Tanglewood's Ozawa Hall on Wednesday, July 24 at 8 p.m. New to the performance lineup is Boston-born actress Uma Thurman, who will take on the newly created part of narrator, joining the previously announced performers-the Emerson String Quartet, pianist Simone Dinnerstein, and vocalist Renee Fleming, to whom the work is dedicated.

Paramount Network to Honor Patrick Swayze in New Documentary

 Paramount Network has joined forces with Network Entertainment to celebrate the life of legendary Hollywood figure Patrick Swayze for the  latest installment of the I Am documentary franchise. I Am Patrick Swayze will world premiere in the actor's home state at the San Antonio Film Festival on Friday, August 2, and will debut on Swayze's birthday, Sunday, August 18 at 9:00 p.m. ETPT on Paramount Network.  Patrick Swayze classics Ghost and Dirty Dancing will air leading into the documentary at 3:30 p.m. ETPT and 6:30 p.m. ETPT. 

Martha Graham Dance Company Announces 2019-20 Season

The world-renowned Martha Graham Dance Company announces the second season of The EVE Project, a two-year initiative celebrating female empowerment and the upcoming 100th anniversary of women's right to vote. Commissioned works from some of today's top choreographers will be presented, and the classic repertory features Martha Graham's heroines and anti-heroines-all with an underlying statement about female power.

ABC to Air THE LAST DAYS OF JFK JR

On July 16, 1999, the world stood still when John F. Kennedy Jr., his wife Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and her sister Lauren Bessette were killed in a plane crash. Now 20 years after that tragic day, ABC News presents a two-hour prime-time special about John, featuring his closest friends and rare, candid video footage of John and Carolyn. “The Last Days of JFK Jr.” airs on “2020,” Friday, July 12 (9:00 – 11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC.

BWW Flashback: MY FAIR LADY Concludes Broadway Run

Eliza has had her day and her dance must come to an end. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Lincoln Center Theater's award-winning production of Lerner & Loewe's My Fair Lady, directed by Bartlett Sher, will ends its long run at the Vivian Beaumont Theater today, July 7. The production, which won the 2018 Drama Desk, Outer Critics and Drama League Awards for Best Musical Revival, will have played a total of 548 performances (39 previews and 509 performances).

TLC will for the first time, take viewers inside the intimate event with never-before-seen footage from the ceremony on Cumberland Island, Georgia. JFK JR. AND CAROLYN'S WEDDING: THE LOST TAPES will debut on Saturday July 13 at 8pm ETPT and will be narrated by Elizabeth McGovern.

American Dance Movement Announces New September Date for National Dance Day, with Choreography by Internet Sensation, Matt Steffanina

American Dance Movement (ADM), formerly the Dizzy Feet Foundation, has announced a new date for National Dance Day, to be celebrated annually on the third Saturday of September. The move will begin this year, on Saturday, Sept. 21. Recognized by Congress as a national day of dance, NDD promotes dance as a form of valuable exercise and of artistic expression.
