The Royal Shakespeare Company today released Sonnets in Solitude, a selection of Shakespeare's sonnets self-recorded by RSC actors while in lockdown. In 2015, the news that the Oregon Shakespeare Festival had commissioned modern English translations of all of Shakespeare's plays drew alarm from purists. Over the past month, the PlayOn! Festival has been presenting all 39 translations. The month-long festival concludes on June 30th and on July 1st The Resident Acting Company will present a new play based on the powerful debate behind these translations-Polishing Shakespeare by HBO Def Poet and critically acclaimed playwright, Brian Dykstra and starring Bradford Cover, Robin Leslie Brown and Kate Rigg. The play will be directed by Margarett Perry.
Rose Theatre Kingston today announces the full programme for Let Me In, running across two days throughout the theatre from 21 - 22 June 2019. Let Me In is an inclusive drama festival with a line-up of both free and ticketed events for guests with physical, learning and sensory needs, carers, families and friends. Since its inception in 2011, the event has engaged hundreds of children and their families, embedding strong working relationships with local schools, community groups, parents and carers alike. Rose Theatre Kingston today announces its 2018 Christmas show, a festive new version with original music of the Brothers' Grimm classic Hansel & Gretel written by Ciaran McConville, who returns to the theatre following last year's successful adaptation of Alice in Winterland. Rosie Jones will direct a cast of local young actors from Rose Youth Theatre led by a team of professional actors. The production opens on Friday 14 December, with previews from Thursday 6 December, and runs until Sunday 6 January 2019.
