A gripping true survival story brought to life on a towering 18-foot mountain inside Stageworks Theatre, where Joe Simpson’s fight to live unfolds with visceral intensity.

Stageworks Theatre will present Touching the Void, the stage adaptation of Joe Simpson’s memoir, in Tampa. Adapted by David Greig, the production recounts a real-life mountaineering survival story using physically demanding staging. The play features an immersive set with live climbing sequences.

Based on Joe Simpson’s bestselling memoir turned BAFTA-winning film, David Greig’s thrilling adaptation charts this astonishing feat of human endurance. Life-affirming and often darkly funny, Touching the Void takes the audience on an epic adventure that asks how far you’d be willing to go to survive.

Theatre Forty once again presents Theatre Appreciation Seminars on Monday nights at 7:00 p.m. The series of rehearsed play-readings will be presented on Zoom, with the exception of the final play in this series, A Christmas Truce, which will be presented on stage at Theatre Forty on November 7.

Artistic Director & CEO Brett Sheehy has unveiled his final season for Melbourne Theatre Company – a program of 11 stellar productions including both new Australian and critically acclaimed international works.

As the final in-theatre seats were snapped up for Bristol Old Vic's Touching the Void, the theatre today announced its live-broadcast partners to help bring the production to a global audience.

Prolific playwright David Greig has a varied catalogue of work ranging from the recently revived Europe to West End hit Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and his acclaimed adaptation of Touching the Void. He is also Artistic Director of Edinburgh's Royal Lyceum Theatre. Greig's first original play in 7 years Adventures with the Painted People was due to begin its run in Edinburgh this summer but has since been adapted for radio due to the pandemic. The writer spoke with BroadwayWorld about his creative process, the future of theatre and his latest work. 

Touching The Void, currently running at the Duke of York's Theatre in London's West End, is set to host a pre-show event with Samaritans on 20th January, discussing mental wellbeing, resilience and weathering the storm.

After a premiere at Bristol Old Vic, and a tour including Inverness and Hong Kong, Touching the Void is now at the Duke of York's Theatre in the West End. Writer David Greig and director Morris have managed the astonishing feat of translating to stage the story of Joe Simpson, who was stranded in the Peruvian Andes after his climbing partner Simon Yates had to make the terrible decision to cut the rope connecting them. BroadwayWorld spoke with Josh Williams about the physical intensity demanded by the show and how it depicts the men who set their minds on scaling these mountains.
