Poetic Theater Productions and Musical Theatre Factory are creating a one-night-only concert happening, Feeling Good: Pleasure as Ritual Resistance on August 21st at 8:00pm at Judson Memorial Church. Creating a portal through adrienne maree brown's NY Times bestselling book Pleasure Activism, this night is a gathering with artist-activists across performance disciplines who center pleasure in their work of social transformation. We feature new work from a diverse group of writers at all stages of their careers who are approaching writing for the theater in thrilling and unexpected ways. We are proud to continue to offer this ongoing series to our audiences FREE of charge. This program is curated by William Burke, Jillian Walker, and John Del Gaudio.
The Tank announces the talented playwrights selected for LIT Council, an 8-month development intensive for male playwrights of color. During their time with the Council (October 2018 through April 2019), writers will be in an affinity space with one another, developing a project and having in-depth conversations around their identity as men of color working in the theatre field as playwrights.
A mix of emerging and established artists fills the fall roster at multi-disciplinary performance venue JACK, with acknowledged masters Toshi Reagon and trumpeter Peter Evans sharing a season with up-and-comers, including playwright Stacey Rose, solo performer Kareem M. Lucas, playwright Robert Quillen Camp and Bessie-nominated dancer Shamar Wayne Watt, among others. Special highlights are the return of the acclaimed Gracie Gardner play, ATHENA, Korean choreographer In Kyung Lee with Vogel, a poetic piece focused on the female gaze, Black Revolutionary Theater Workshop with the premiere of Sheyenne Javonne Brown's Summoned, in which Orpheus and Eurydice meet the Black Lives Matter movement, and irreverent dancer/choreographer Greg Zuccolo with his "danced play," Busy White People, Goodnight.
Admission to individual SPARK events April 6-8 is now available online at pittsburghCLO.org/SPARK. For a small donation to Pittsburgh CLO's Audience Development and Education programs, members of the public are invited to peek behind the scenes of a musical in the making as 10 writing teams from across the country converge in Pittsburgh to showcase their work through a series of public presentations featuring local and national actors. Performances will take place at venues throughout the Cultural District.
Kuinka is happy to announce that they're going to be touring like crazy this summer. An extended run of dates begins this week at the Treefort Festival in Boise, ID, with more dates to be announced soon.
