What did our critic think of GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY at Aronoff Center? Admittedly, I’m not a huge Bob Dylan fan. Not for any reasons like dislike, but generationally I was never really exposed to his music. So when I heard there was a new musical using his catalog, my expectations were tampered.

The North American Tour of Girl From the North Country, written and directed by celebrated playwright Conor McPherson and featuring Tony Award-winning orchestrations by Simon Hale, has officially hit the road! Penguin Rep Theatre will present Incident at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, a new comedy set in the era of bell bottoms, cassette tapes and landline phones by Katie Forgette, directed by Thomas Caruso, June 23 through July 16.

Penguin Rep Theatre under the leadership of founding artistic director Joe Brancato and executive director Andrew M. Horn presents Incident at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, a new comedy set in the era of bell bottoms, cassette tapes and landline phones by Katie Forgette, directed by Thomas Caruso, June 23 through July 16.

Since the creation of the New York Youth Symphony's Musical Theater Songwriting Program (MTS) in 2018, Anna K. Jacobs has been its director, creating the curriculum from scratch, bringing world renowned Broadway professionals into classes, and teaching extraordinary NYYS students the craft of songwriting. Now, as the students gear up for their final performance of the year at Joe's Pub, Anna will be taking her final bow. 

On Wednesday, May 17th at Joe's Pub at The Public Theater at 7pm, a live audience will have the unique chance to listen to songs written, composed, and arranged by the 2023 New York Youth Symphony's MTS cohort.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul visited Girl From The North Country on Broadway at the Belasco Theatre this evening. Prior to the show, she visited with the cast and came onstage to give brief remarks about Broadway’s resilience and the comeback of New York City.  

The Tony Nominated Broadway musical Girl From The North Country announced that the production was professionally captured prior to its re-opening on April 29th for future use.

Last night, Girl From The North Country hosted a special performance and gala to celebrate their third time opening on Broadway, as well as their seven Tony Award nominations, including “Best New Musical.” 

Girl From the North Country, which temporarily closed on January 23 with the promise of returning this spring, returned for a limited engagement, April 29-June 19 at the Belasco Theatre.
