BIRDLAND THEATER will present John Manzari – the acclaimed dancer, singer, actor, and choreographer currently appearing on Broadway in Funny Girl – in a special event on Monday, May 23 at 8:30 PM.

BIRDLAND JAZZ CLUB will present Nashville vocalist Wendy Moten – best known for her 2021 run on NBC’s “The Voice” – in a special concert on Monday, May 16 at 7:00 PM. Her show will include songwriter Richard Whiting hits including “He’s Funny That Way,” “My Ideal,” “Miss Brown,” and “Too Marvelous For Words.”

BIRDLAND JAZZ CLUB will present acclaimed vocalist and songwriter Amanda McBroom in her new show “Crimes of the Heart” on Monday, May 2 at 7:00 PM. McBroom’s concert will feature songs of passion, politics, and just plain love, written by the likes of Stephen Sondheim, Irving Berlin, Leonard Cohen, and of course, Amanda McBroom.

BIRDLAND JAZZ CLUB will present acclaimed vocalist Karen Akers in the new show “Water Under the Bridge” on Monday, April 25 at 7:00 PM.

We were lucky enough to be invited to the “cool kids table” to have a chat with the incomparable Janis Ian from MEAN GIRLS THE MUSICAL, played by Mary Kate Morrisey. It was a highly informative experience, and she gave us the inside scoop, even though we forgot to wear pink on Wednesday and don’t even go here.

Fresh on the heels of her sold-out Christmas show, Marieann Meringolo returns to the basement for an in-depth look at love.

Celebrating the struggle of being an “extra,” Scott Raneri's new cabaret, EXTRA! EXTRA! returns to the Triad Theater on Sunday, November 7 at 3:00 PM. Directed by Mark Corpron with music direction by Fred Barton, EXTRA! EXTRA! features an eclectic selection of songs ranging from Broadway standards to the folk rock of Janis Ian.

With power notes like the ones displayed in his new show, Scott Raneri is completely cast-able in musical theater, which is most of what he talks about in his show about being an extra.

The joy and terror of doing cabaret entertainment is that it is amazingly confessional. There are no characters to hide behind. Only music, a performer, and his experiences. The vulnerability is exponentially compounded when the show you set out to do tells the story of your life. It is an extremely courageous thing to do. That is the task that Mark Corpron sets for himself in his show MOVING ON: SONGS OF JOURNEY, which opened last night at Don’t Tell Mama. The show sets out to explore not the destinations we arrive at in life, but rather the journeys that happen in between those destinations. It focuses on a soul with a permanent case of wanderlust and the loneliness that often accompanies such globe-trotting adventures.

After his popular show The Marvelous Mr. Marzo was a big hit around town, Scott Raneri creates an equally interesting-themed show based on his work as a film and television extra.

Audiences will be able to create the perfect night on the town without ever leaving The Parker as they enjoy a season of extraordinary entertainment. Among the headliners coming to The Parker this season are: legendary musicians Lindsey Buckingham, Chris Botti, Keb' Mo', The Manhattan Transfer, Bruce Hornsby, a double bill of Los Lobos and Taj Mahal, and a triple bill of Janis Ian with Tom Chapin and Livingston Taylor; hilarious comics Bianca Del Rio, Paula Poundstone, Lewis Black and Patton Oswalt; tributes to music icons Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Journey and Led Zeppelin; Broadway stars Alan Cumming and Todrick Hall; and Seth Rudetsky's Broadway Concert Series featuring Stephanie J. Block, Santino Fontana and Laura Benanti. 

I want to offer heartfelt thanks to Broadway Palm for giving me the opportunity to relive my formative years without the angst of having to go through high school again. The current production, Beehive, embodies the 1960s through the words and melodies of the female singers and 'girl groups' of that era. And what an era it was.

Now, Jeremy Parsons has been selected, from approximately 700 entries, as a 2021 New Folk Finalist. As a result, Jeremy will perform in one of two Kerrville's Grassy Hill New Folk Competition Finalist Concerts on Saturday May 22nd at 7p.m. Central & Sunday May 23rd at 7p.m. Central.
