Ann Arbor's Theatre NOVA is presenting a special concert version of Stephen Sondheim's Follies. With book by James Goldman, Follies best-loved songs include a?oeBroadway Baby,a?? a?oeI'm Still Here,a?? a?oeCould I Leave You?a?? and a?oeLosing My Mind.a?? The limited-engagement fundraiser will only run Thursday-Sunday for two weeks, closing on Nov. 17. BroadwayWorld Detroit caught up with Theatre NOVA's Co-Artistic Director, Diane Hill, about what theatre audiences can expect:

Actor Burt Grinstead gained recognition in Los Angeles for his terrific performance in Deathtrap at LGBTQ and later in The Rope at Actors Co-op. He formed his own production company and produced and co-starred in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which he also adapted with his partner Anna Stromberg. They won top prize at the Hollywood Fringe Festival in 2018. Grinstead is currently preparing to open as Richard the Lionheart in The Lion in Winter at Laguna Playhouse this Sunday November 10. In our conversation he talks about the play in depth and lays bare his passion for the acting profession.

San Francisco Playhouse announced today the six plays that will comprise its 2019-20 Mainstage Season. With a lineup that includes both brave new works and re-imagined classics, the company solidifies its commitment to providing a home for the most essential voices in theatre. The Playhouse's three-play Sandbox Series devoted to developing new works will be announced at a later date.

The meticulous care of the National Theatre's production is continued in the soundtrack recording, demonstrating the collaborative brilliance of orchestrations from Jonathan Tunick and Josh Clayton, music supervision from Nicholas Skilbeck, and musical direction from Nigel Lilley - the latter conducting an exceptionally disciplined and articulate 21-piece orchestra.

Every family has issues, and for some reason those issues always appear during the holidays. In the Iowa Stage production of 'The Lion in Winter', by James Goldman family issues are prevalent as King Henry, Queen Eleanor and their three sons argue over who should take over the throne after King Henry. 'The Lion in Winter', which opened this last weekend and continues through March 3, was a true master class of what makes a great show.

Follies begins with a gentle piece of music: warm, slow, romantic, that erupts into a jazz and brass extravaganza. Like the show that follows, it is full of highs and lows, big things and small things, pain and longing and fun.
