tah Repertory Theater and the new Noorda Theatre on the Utah Valley University Campus have teamed together this Halloween season to bring the cautionary tale of Sweeney Todd, Sondheim's reminder of what happens when a person's heart is guided completely by revenge. When the show was first announced, there was great excitement that Utah's own Will Swenson was going to take on the lead roll, however due to a schedule conflict, last month it was announced that he would be replaced by Broadway Alumni Jeff McCarthy. While I was initially disappointed, I did get the chance to see McCarthy as Officer Lockstock in Urinetown on Broadway, so I was intrigued to see what he could bring to the role of Sweeney.

Eleven world premiere plays and musicals seen first by Chicago audiences were among those receiving nominations by the Jeff Awards, announced today. A total of 192 nominations were made in 34 categories that honor Chicago Equity theatrical productions that opened between August 1, 2018 and July 31, 2019. During the 2018-19 season, Jeff Awards judges attended opening nights of 132 Equity productions offered by 43 producing organizations and from these openings, 112 productions were a?oeJeff Recommendeda?? and eligible for award nominations.

Award-winning performers Robert Deason (dueling pianist extraordinaire) and Lauren Paris (most recently seen in a critically acclaimed performance as Percy in THE SPITFIRE GRILL, Refuge Theatre Project) are back with their fourth round of Chi-Town Sings over the past year, after their sold-out performances honoring Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato, and Sara Bareilles. CHI-TOWN SINGS: BRITNEY VS. CHRISTINA will be performed at 8PM on June 10th, and the series is moving from The Den Theatre to City Winery in the West Loop. CHI-TOWN SINGS LADY GAGA will be performed at 8PM on March 4th at The Den Theatre. Previously, the series occupied the beloved 100 seat Haven Cabaret space, but have been upgraded to a 300 seat venue: The Heath. An anonymous producer has also signed on to the project.
