HIT HER WITH THE SKATES, a new musical about life, love and the roller rink starring American Idol power couple Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young, has announced full casting for the world premiere of the Chicago production at the Royal George Theatre, 1641 North Halsted St., Chicago, IL, on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Preview performances are slated to begin March 10.

SHOWTIME has picked up a second season of the critically acclaimed comedy series WORK IN PROGRESS. Created and written by Chicago improv mainstays Abby McEnany and Tim Mason and co-written by Lilly Wachowski (The Matrix), the series stars McEnany as a fictionalized version of herself whose misfortune and despair unexpectedly lead her to a vibrantly transformative relationship. The ten-episode second season will be entirely written, shot and produced in Chicago this year. Season one currently airs on Sundays at 11 p.m. ET/PT, with its season finale set to air January 26. The announcement was made today by Jana Winograde, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc., at the Television Critics Association's Winter Press Tour.

Season one has followed the intermingled lives of Bette Porter (Jennifer Beals), Shane McCutcheon (Katherine Moennig) and Alice Pieszecki (Leisha Hailey), along with new characters Dani Nùñez (Arienne Mandi), Micah Lee (Leo Sheng), Finley (Jacqueline Toboni), Sophie Suarez (Rosanny Zayas) and Gigi (Sepideh Moafi), as they experience love, heartbreak, sex, setbacks and success in L.A. Currently airing Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT, season one is executive produced by showrunner Marja-Lewis Ryan (The Four-Faced Liar, 6 Balloons), with series creator Ilene Chaiken, Kristen Campo, Allyce Ozarski, Steph Green (pilot), and original series stars Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennig and Leisha Hailey. Friends and admirers of Irving Berlin from New York's theater community--continuing a tradition they began back while Berlin was alive--recently gathered at his former home in New York City to remember him in song. They sang such Berlin classics as 'God Bless America,' 'White Christmas,' and 'Always,' complete with rarely heard verses. Berlin (1888-1989) composed the scores for 18 Broadway shows and 19 films. He wrote more standards and made more money than any of his colleagues in the Golden Aged of American Popular Music.
AURAL COMPASS PROJECTS - On Friday, February 7th, 2020 at 7:30pm, Aural Compass Projects presents Lift Every Voice, a celebration of African-American composers of the last century. Featured cycles on the program are John Carter's Cantata, a five-part work of sophisticated arrangements of spirituals; Jacqueline Hairston's On Consciousness Streams, a song cycle with text by Ms. Hairston, a translation of text by Ludwig van Beethoven, and an excerpt from Dr. Howard Thurman's Meditations of the Heart; Margaret Bonds' Three Dream Portraits, which uses poems by Langston Hughes; and H. Leslie Adams' Nightsongs, using the words of five African-American poets. Soprano Meroë Khalia Adeeb, mezzo-soprano Tesia Kwarteng, and tenor Elliott Paige all make their ACP debuts, joined by Artistic Director and pianist Michael Lewis.

Theater of War Productions and the Museum of Jewish Heritage - A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, in partnership with National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene, will present a reading of scenes from Peter Weiss' play The Investigation, a searing piece of documentary theater adapted from the Frankfurt Auschwitz Trials of 1963-65 when 22 mid- and lower-level Nazi officials were tried for crimes against humanity in the Auschwitz-Birkenau complex.

The Theater Project is once again reaching out to creative young people in its 18th annual Young Playwrights Competition. Winners receive cash prizes and see their work performed by professional actors at the awards ceremony in March of 2020. The submission deadline is January 24, 2020.
