Māyā, a new musical by Cheeyang Ng (book/music) and Eric Sorrels (book/lyrics), will hold industry readings on February 9th and 10th, 2020 at The Growing Studio.

Featuring a cast of five extraordinary women including Ashleigh Awusie (Kasimir & Karoline, The Gate Theatre in London) as Wife #2, Nancy Moricette (The Convert, The Public Theater) as Rita, Jacqueline Nwabueze (Measure for Measure, Public Theater Mobile Unit) as Wife #1, Matty Sangare (Brooklyn College )as Wife #4, and Nigerian-born, Milwaukee-raised actress Sola Thompson (La La La Strada, Proboscis Theatre) as Wife #3.

The Old Globe's Annual Meeting was held on Monday, February 3, 2020 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Board Chair Nicole A. Clay welcomed the members of The Old Globe Board of Directors along with donors, subscribers, and guests, and announced the newly elected Directors serving three-year terms. Globe senior staff members presented highlights of the 2019 fiscal year, and Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein and Managing Director Timothy J. Shields spoke about the future of the Globe and its place in the San Diego community.

Directed by Anderson Claudir, the musical adaptation of Aluisio Azevedo's O Cortico, a classic work of Brazilian naturalist literature, the protagonism is reversed The voice now comes from Bertoleza: a woman, black and enslaved who has a relationship with Joao Romao, an ambitious and opportunist Portuguese. Starring Lu Campos, the show also features the award-winning Eduardo Silva and opens at SESC Belenzinho, in February.

IF/THEN is a musical with score by Tom Kitt and libretto by Brian Yorkey who also collaborated on the multi-award winning NEXT TO NORMAL, which laid the foundation for a major change in the American musical theatre-the development of musical dramas. IF/THEN is now on stage at Lakeland Civic Theatre.

For the past five decades, National Lampoon has pushed boundaries in the comedy universe. In honor of its 50th anniversary, National Lampoon, in keeping with its half-century-old legacy, today announces the creation of a reboot to its legendary off-Broadway musical sketch hit Lemmings, which helped launched the careers of John Belushi, Christopher Guest, Harold Ramis, Anne Beatts, and more. Lemmings: 21st Century is written by Larson Grant Winner, Andrew Farmer, with a score written by downtown music-comedy guru Henry Koperski, and directed by red-hot theater artist Annie Tippe.

Principal photography has begun on Warner Bros. Pictures' “The Batman.” Director Matt Reeves (the “Planet of the Apes” films) is at the helm, with Robert Pattinson (upcoming “Tenet,” “The Lighthouse,” “Good Time”) starring as Gotham City's vigilante detective, Batman, and billionaire Bruce Wayne.

TUTA Theatre will present the world premiere adaptation of Hedda Gabler: A Play with Live Music, adapted and directed by Artistic Director Jacqueline Stone, with original music and music direction by Wain Parham, based on the play by Henrik Ibsen. Hedda Gabler will play February 25 - March 29, 2020 at Strawdog Theatre Company, 1802 W. Berenice Ave. in Chicago. Tickets are currently available at www.tutatheatre.org. REDCAT, CalArts' downtown center for contemporary arts, will present the world premiere of Dada Divas, an experimental opera by Jacqueline Bobak.
