Off-Broadway Engagement of SAFE by Penny Jackson Begins Previews Next Month

91 Central Productions presents character-driven contemporary theater relevant to international audiences.  The limited Off Broadway engagement of Safe by Penny Jackson will be at the Theatre at the 14th Y, 344 East 14th Street (1st & 2nd Avenue).  Previews begin September 18th and the Opening is Tuesday, September 20th at 7:00 pm. 

Ladies of THE ACTRESS Get Costume Fittings From Playwright Carrie Robbins

Dana Smith-Croll of The Actors Company Theatre & Jenne Vath (NYInnovative Theatre Award Nomination) join Mikel Sarah Lambert, former member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and Drama Desk nominee for the Mint Theatre's revival of D.H. Lawrence's The Daughter-in-Law, in THE ACTRESS, a new one act play by Carrie Robbins, to be presented at the Hudson Guild Theater on August 22, 24 & 27, 2016.  THE ACTRESS is directed by Paul Dobie and will be part of Thespis Productions 2016 Summerfest Theater Festival.  Days of the Giants LLC will co-produce.

Steven Hauck and Mikel Sarah Lambert to Appear in THE ACTRESS

Cast Set for PLAYWRIGHTS FOR A CAUSE Benefit for New Yorkers Against Gun Violence

The annual Playwrights for a Cause will be Sunday, July 24th at 7:30 pm at the Atlantic Theatre (Linda Gross Theater), 336 West 20th Street, NYC 10011. Founded and curated by Glory Kadigan, Playwrights for a Cause is the annual benefit hosted by Planet Connections Theatre Festivity. This year the event will benefit this important group - New Yorkers Against Gun Violence.

New Light Theater Project's Adaptation of MONTE CRISTO Begins Next Week at Urban Stages

New Light Theater Project (recently represented in New York with their acclaimed production of In The Soundless Awe) will present the New York City Premiere of Jared Reinmuth's MONTE CRISTO, an adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' 1844 classic adventure novel The Count of Monte Cristo. The production will be directed by award-winner Cailin Heffernan. Previews begin January 22 at Urban Stages with opening slated for January 28.

Fab Marquee's MACBETH (OF THE OPPRESSED) Opens Tonight at The 14th Street Y

Fab Marquee Productions in association with The Theater Series at The 14th Street Y presents the LGBT multicultural production of William Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth, adapted and directed by Tom Slot. MACBETH (OF THE OPPRESSED), playing a three-week limited engagement at The Theater at the 14th Street Y (344 East 14th Street at 1st Avenue, Manhattan). Performances continue through Saturday, October 24th. Opening Night is tonight, October 10th at 8 p.m.

2015 Innovative Theater Award Winners Announced!

On Monday, September 21, 2015 The Innovative Theatre Foundation, the organization who for the past 11 years has been dedicated to celebrating Off-Off-Broadway, announced the 2015 recipients at its annual event. Celebrating eleven years and thousands of nominees, the New York Innovative Theatre awards took place at Mason Hall at Baruch Performing Arts Center.

The evening, which will benefit the non-profit National Coalition Against Censorship, will showcase world premiere one-act plays by four acclaimed playwrights: Israel Horovitz's Breaking Phillip Glass and Erik Ehn's Her Speech, both directed by Planet Connections Theatre Festivity founder and PFAC Producing Artistic Curator Glory Kadigan; Halley Feiffer's A Play About New Mexico, directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch; and Neil LaBute's Mohammed Gets a Boner, directed by Marco Calvani.

Carman Napier, Dale Sampson and Jonathan Mesisca Lead EVITA, Opening Tonight at Gallery Players

The Gallery Players announces EVITA, the final musical of their 48th Season. With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, this epic musical is directed by Mark Harborth (Rent, Dreamgirls), choreographed by Elyse Daye Hart (Dreamgirls, A Little Night Music), with music direction by Emily Croome. Carman Napier (Next to Normal) fills the title role of the Argentinian legend, with Dale Sampson (Rent) as Che, and Jonathan Mesisca making his Gallery debut as Juan Peron. EVITA opens this evening, April 25th at 8pm and runs through Sunday, May 17th, 2015.

Boomerang Theatre Company to Present Johnna Adams' 'LICKSPITTLES'

Boomerang Theatre Company will present, after a successful sold-out workshop production, the return of Lickspittles, Buttonholers, and Damned Pernicious Go-Betweens by award-winning playwright Johnna Adams, directed by John Hurley. Lickspittles, Buttonholers, and Damned Pernicious Go-Betweens will play a three week limited engagement at Teatro Circulo (64 East 4th Street, New York, NY 10003).
