The Play That Goes Wrong, announced today that the Tony Award-winning production has extended its run past its previously announced closing date Sunday, August 26. The show is now on sale until Sunday, January 6, 2019. Tickets will be available starting Friday, July 13 at noon.

Variety has reported that J.J. Abrams is in early talks with Keri Russell to join “Star Wars: Episode IX,” which Abrams is writing and directing. Russell and Abrams last collaborated on 2006's “Mission: Impossible III.”

Last night's star-studded event, Backstage at the Geffen, at the Geffen Playhouse grossed more than $1 million for the theater's education, outreach and artistic initiatives. The fundraiser, which recognizes leaders in the artistic community, supports the theater's mission to produce original, quality work and raises funds for its education and community engagement programs, honored legendary stage and screen performer Dick Van Dyke and award-winning composer, lyricist and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda. Comedian Jim Carrey presented the Distinction in Theater Award to Van Dyke and EGOT award-winning actress Rita Moreno presented the Education Impact Award to Miranda.

The producers of Broadway's longest running comedy, The Play That Goes Wrong, announced today that the Tony Award-winning production will close on Sunday, August 26, 2018 prior to the launch of the National Tour opening in Pittsburgh, PA in September. Additional tour cities, dates, and casting will be announced at a later date.

On a recent episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, J.J. Abrams appeared as a guest. When Abrams wouldn't share spoilers about any of his upcoming projects, he offered compensation by inviting Colbert to see The Play That Goes Wrong, which Abrams co-produced. Colbert asked if he could bring someone, then proceeded to invite the entire Ed Sullivan Theater audience of about 400. The crowd cheered and Colbert assured them that after the show, they would all be heading over to see the Broadway play.

Abrams and Stephen King set to premiere on July 25; Catch-22, from George Clooney and starring Kyle Chandler; The First, from Beau Willimon and starring Sean Penn; and Little Fires Everywhere, from Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington, based on the acclaimed novel of the same name.
