BWW Review: QUIXOTE NUEVO at Hartford Stage

There are some stories that have a timeless quality, speaking to the aches and the joys of modern life regardless of the era in which they are told. Such is the classic tale of Don Quixote, a story that, when Miguel de Cervantes published it in 1605, took on a certain meaning and century after century has been seen through an evolving lens, from comic novel to tragic statement against nobility. But in Octavio Solis' new play QUIXOTE NUEVO, which opens Hartford Stage's 2019/2020 season, the infamous Spanish Knight of La Mancha has become the Latino Knight of La Plancha (Texas) battling border surveillance drones instead of windmills and fighting for the undocumented versus the poor citizens of war-ravaged Spain.

BWW Review: Duffy Hudson Inhabits the Essence of EDGAR ALLAN POE The Master of the Macabre

Hudson emerged from the darkness as himself with nary a trace of his Poe essence to be seen. Soon he opened the suitcase placed on the stage and as he shared how his adoration of Poe's work began, he transformed himself before our eyes into the Master of the Macabre in all his glory. And by the time Poe's signature long black coat graced his frame, the actor was no longer there and before us stood the physical essence of Edgar Allan Poe.

BWW Review: Clermont's Moonlight Players Make Mayhem in DIAL M FOR MURDER

Tonight's my first time in Historic Downtown Clermont. The small parking lot outside the Moonlight Players Theatre already filled up well before I arrived, so I settled on a very uncomfortable parallel parking space a couple blocks down. Fortunately, this allowed me a chance to walk along Minneola Avenue, where an outdoor saxophonist was jazzing out 'Sing, Sing, Sing' next door to a bakery filled with customers - some inside ordering sweets, but most already outside on the patio enjoying their wares and the ambient musical stylings of Benny Goodman. I had to double back a couple times before I found the sidewalk that led me to the theatre. The Moonlight Players' 2019-20 season had kicked off a couple weeks ago, but here I was, late to the party, as their season's first production, DIAL M FOR MURDER, had just reached its closing weekend.
