Review: ENDGAME at Catastrophic Theatre

Before this world ends, you need to see Catastrophic’s staging of ENDGAME starring Greg Dean and directed by Jason Nodler. They never truly seem to be finished with this one, but you can’t honestly expect the world to be here for a revival in thirteen years.

Review: TOROS at Rec Room Arts

With expert direction, brilliant acting, and masterly design elements, Rec Room Arts latest outing of Danny Tejera's Toros is a production that will leave Houston audiences with complicated emotions about this coming-of-age story. While Tejera's work is a dramedy, Rec Room Arts decision to delve into this story, with its themes of toxic masculinity, the transition into adulthood, and the complexities of friendship, is a genius one.

Rec Room Arts To Present TOROS Regional Premiere

Rec Room Arts has announced the regional premiere of TOROS, a provocative new play by Spanish-American playwright Danny Tejera, directed by Lily Wolff (Hurricane Diane, Wolf Play).

Review: DRACULA at CLASSICAL THEATRE COMPANY

Houston’s CLASSICAL THEATRE COMPANY has decided to take it back to the original written word and return Dracula to the status of a demon rather than a lover. And yet, somehow, they have cast Spencer Plachy, who is the most swoon-worthy actor Houston has, a man who has embodied Mr. Darcy for years. Also, a man sexy enough to star in the Broadway tour of THE LION KING shirtless as Scar. It’s wild to see Darcy do Dracula and do it as a feral animal to boot. See what our critic had to say.

SC New Play Festival to Present Works From Gwon, Grays, Cabaret from Boykin, and More

The South Carolina New Play Festival has announced the 3rd annual festival. It will take place over four days, starting on Thursday, August 8, and will feature a wide range of musicals, plays, town halls, an outdoor variety stage, and will culminate in a Cabaret featuring Tony-nominee Phillip Boykin (Hadestown) on August 11.

Review: The Very Trippy EDDIE GOES TO POETRY CITY At Catastrophic Theatre

You won’t find a more technically stunning or well acted show in Houston right now. There is a lot to recommend EDDIE GOES TO POETRY CITY, but with one caveat. It will seem presentational and all stylistic performance rather than anything linear or narrative. If you love abstract or absurd theater you will be in heaven during your visit to Poetry City.

Review: MANDELA, The Young Vic

To paraphrase Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, when Mandela is good, it’s very, very good, and when it’s bad, it’s almost unwatchable.
