It was just announced by Pulitzer Prize Administrator Dana Canedy that Michael R. Jackson's A Strange Loop has officially won the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. This year's finalists included: Will Arbery's Heroes of the Fourth Turning and David Henry Hwang and Jeanine Tesori's Soft Power.

PlayMakers Repertory Company Has Announced Their 2020/21 Season ALL TOO HUMAN: THE ART OF COMEDY

PlayMakers Repertory Company has announced its 2020/21 Season, All Too Human: The Art of Comedy. The season features nine productions that explore the gamut of human experience showcased in comedies both classic and new. The PlayMakers Mainstage season will feature a tribe of loving, zany Southern belles, a buddy-cop adventure that crackles with hope and humor amidst the fall of the Soviet Union, a George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, a story of one woman's drastic fall down the social ladder and her fabulous self-reinvention, the Bard's most famous pastoral comedy, and the heartwarming tale of a young girl and the community of family, teachers, and friends who help her achieve her heart's desire. Our PRC2 Kenan Stage also brings three uniquely distinct, fresh perspectives on the comedic form, chosen to continue pushing the boundaries of what we believe 'theatre' to be.

BWW Review: DAS BARBECU Ribs Wagner's Tetralogy with Saucy Results from On Site Opera

There must be something in the air, with a couple of New York's small opera companies transporting 19th-century German Romantic operas by Weber and Wagner to Texas within a couple of months, in search of ways to attract new audiences. The first was Weber's DIE FREISCHUTZ from Heartbeat Opera, now On Site Opera's new production of Jim Luigs' and Scott Warrender's DAS BARBECU, complete with all the fixin's at Hill Country Barbecue Market on West 26th Street in Manhattan.  

Walter Bobbie and Brooke Shields Will Lead a Reading Of THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER

A star-studded cast led by Tony-winner Walter Bobbie and Broadway and Hollywood star Brooke Shields are featured in a benefit reading of George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart's iconic comedy, a?oeThe Man Who Came to Dinnera?? directed by Marsha Mason for Bucks County Playhouse. Performances will be held at Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope on Wednesday, February 5 at 7 pm, followed by a reading in New York at the WP Theater, 2162 Broadway at 76th Street, on Monday, February 10 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25.

BWW Interview: Director Bruce Kimmel Talks THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER

Actor/director/author Bruce Kimmel is best known to audiences for his tremendous work with Kritzerland, his own company that produces updated albums of classic musicals as well as recordings of new ones like his A Carol Christmas, produced last year at Group Rep and currently nominated for several BroadwayWorld Awards. Kimmel is about to open The Man Who Came to Dinner at Group Rep on December 6. In our convesation he talks about his fondness for the play and gives us his vision for a successful production of it. How do you envision The Man Who Came to Dinner onstage? BK: Fast. Funny. I love the play, have played Banjo twice, so it's really fun to come back to it as a director. The comedy is as funny as it's always been and it's also great to be able to bring whatever we can bring to it. But, for me, pace is key - the play can run long, but I'm making sure that doesn't happen here. Why do you think it has endured all these years even though it's a period piece with the mention of many, many names people today do not recognize? BK: The central situation is so relatable - someone takes over your house and your life, and disrupts everything, but, in the end, ends up being helpful to people. MasterVoices Begins 2019-2020 Season with Concert Staging of The Gershwins' LET 'EM EAT CAKE at Carnegie Hall

MasterVoices begins its 2019-20 season on Thursday, November 21 at Carnegie Hall with the concert staging of George and Ira Gershwins' 1933 musical Let 'Em Eat Cake, with a book by George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind, a comic satire about a populist U.S. President who is voted out of office and stages a coup to regain power. Artistic Director Ted Sperling will direct and conduct MasterVoices, soloists, and Orchestra of St. Luke's in this timely musical which has not been heard in New York since 1987. Updated casting details are included below.
