As BroadwayWorld previously reported, New Works Provincetown, a developmental theatre lab founded by Producer Mark Cortale to create and develop new theatrical works, returned last month to continue work on The Last Diva- a new musical with a book by Jonathan Tolins (Buyer & Cellar), music by Scott Frankel (Grey Gardens, War Paint) and lyrics by Michael Korie (Grey Gardens, War Paint). 

Following the news of Pantomimes and shows being cancelled across the land, audiences will still have the opportunity to watch their favourite fairy-tale heroes, villains and dames in an original film that no virus can stop.

I had the pleasure of streaming Fairfield Center Stage’s production of A QUARANTINE CHRISTMAS CAROL EXPERIENCE.  The innovative creativity from Fairfield Center Stage continues to mesmerize audiences with its ability to showcase a myriad of talented cast members and maximize available resources, even during this time of social distancing.  Yet again, Fairfield Center Stage has dared to go that extra mile undertaking a project more grandiose than that which many companies would even consider, and in doing so has again excelled in bringing the audience a phenomenal unique experience that we would not get anywhere else!  

Riverside Studios is presenting programming for its inaugural Christmas season, which included an evening of unplugged performance with West End Acoustic featuring SIX’s Maiya Quansah-Breed and Renée Lamb, Wicked’s Nicholas McLean, Jesus Christ Superstar’s Tyrone Huntley and Dear Evan Hansen’s Oliver Award-winning Sam Tutty. 

Next year, film aficionados can enjoy a yearlong journey spanning nine decades of cinema history, through a dozen of some of the movie industry’s greatest titles, as Fathom Events and Turner Classic Movies present the seventh annual TCM Big Screen Classics series.

This holiday season is a lot different than the past. With increased restrictions due to COVID-19, live theatre is currently on pause with uncertainty as to when it will return. Thankfully, the Arts Club’s one-woman play, THE TWELVE DATES OF CHRISTMAS, is available for streaming to satisfy all of your theatre needs this December. Starring Genevieve Fleming and Melissa Oei both taking on the lead role of Mary, this play follows a 30-something newly single woman as she navigates her way through the dating scene. After catching her fiancé locking lips with another woman on national TV, Mary goes on many dates that make her question whether she will ever find love again. If you’re curious to see how Mary’s love life plays out, you have until January 3rd to purchase a recorded stream of the show for $19 on the Arts Club website – it is definitely worth the watch!

A who's who of stage, screen, and music stars came together virtually last night to help The 24 Hour Plays celebrate its milestone 20th Annual Broadway Gala. Hugh Dancy, Rachel Dratch, Carly Hughes, Gillian Jacobs and Bebe Neuwirth were among the incredible talents who teamed up to write, rehearse, produce, and perform six original plays in 24 hours. The performance was entirely LIVE and streamed in living rooms around the world! 

Fairfield Center Stage, a community theater group, begins its second season of the online variety show, FAIRFIELD CENTER COUCH, with a holiday variety special, FAIRFIELD CENTER COUCH HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA! Film legend Spike Lee is planning his next project- a movie musical about the creation of Viagra. According to EW, Lee is working with playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah on the screenplay, which is based on David Kusher's 2018 Esquire piece- 'All Rise: The Untold Story of The Guys Who Launched Viagra.'
