It’s time to get into the holiday spirit! From the awe-inspiring magic of The Nutcracker to the rollicking antics of A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong, BroadwayHD has a holiday title for everyone to enjoy.

Nothing says Christmas quite like The Nutcracker, and this year The Royal Ballet celebrates the festive season with this perennial favourite. Peter Wright's much-loved production of the 19th-century classic received its premiere in 1984 and has become a staple of The Royal Ballet's repertory.

The Royal presents A Diamond Celebration, a special programme to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of The Friends of Covent Garden. This celebration will also be broadcast live to cinemas around the world on Wednesday 16th November and encore screenings on Saturday 19th November.

This October, The Royal Ballet opens their 2022/23 Cinema Season with Kenneth MacMillan's Mayerling, marking 30 years since the choreographer's death in 1992.

Mayerling, Kenneth MacMillan's dark tale of dangerous obsession, returns to the Royal Opera House to open The Royal Ballet's 2022/23 season. Based on the true story of the murder-suicide scandal that plagued the Austro-Hungarian empire, Mayerling follows the events leading to the violent deaths of Crown Prince Rudolf and his mistress Baroness Mary Vetsera.

Director of The Royal Ballet Kevin O'Hare has announced promotions, new joiners and leavers for The Royal Ballet's 2022/23 Season.   

The unmatched impact of Rudolf Nureyev, whose performances touched the lives of people around the world, will be celebrated on stage this September in London over five performances at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane - where Nureyev made his London debut - in a production curated by a former star of The Royal Ballet which will bring together an array of international talent both on and off stage.

The 2019 film adaptation of Cats is now available to stream on Netflix in the UK. The film is not available on the US version of the streaming platform at this time.

This October The Royal Ballet returns for its first full Season in 18 months with a Season featuring world premieres of Wayne McGregor’s The Dante Project, Christopher Wheeldon’s Like Water for Chocolate, a new work by Kyle Abraham as well as classics including Giselle, The Nutcracker and Swan Lake. 

The Royal Opera House is one week away from the start of its first full Season since 2019, opening its doors to the public every day from 12pm and premiering with The Royal Opera’s spectacular new production of Verdi’s Rigoletto on September 13 and, for The Royal Ballet, a sumptuous performance of Kenneth MacMillan’s much-loved production of Romeo and Juliet on 5 October.  

Seeing both of these movies and comparing their teams has shown that Hollywood needs to let Broadway people work on movie musicals. There is an understanding that Broadway people have of musicals that Hollywood people don't. 

The Royal Ballet celebrates contemporary choreography in an evening that demonstrates the breadth of choreographic talent working with the Company today. Continuing the week that dance returned to the UK, the Royal Ballet favoured a contemporary focus with a mixed bill under the banner title, 21st Century Choreographers. As if the occasion needed further anticipation, earlier that day both immediate and upcoming promotions were announced, with First Soloists Fumi Kaneko and Mayara Magri making the step up to Principal. As at Sadler’s Wells the night before, there was giddy applause and foot-stamping as we were welcomed to the performance and a spontaneous standing ovation before anyone had danced a step: heart-swelling stuff.
