New Village Arts (NVA) has announced it's production of Hairspray which will be in performances later this summer. As the largest production in NVA’s history, this staging is noted to raise the bar for what’s possible on the Ray Charles.

New Village Arts (NVA) kicks off their 24th season with the delightfully quirky and self-referential musical [title of show]. This one-act musical, with music and lyrics by Jeff Bowen and book by Hunter Bell, is a love letter to musical theatre and the creative process itself.

This, the 24th season and third full season in the renovated and renamed Ray Charles Stage at the Dea Hurston New Village Arts Center, celebrates stories of resilience and friendship: tales of grit, growth, and the powerful joy that comes from facing life’s challenges together.

“The Color Purple” brings Alice Walker’s novel of the same name to life with wonderful musical numbers and a talented cast playing at New Village Arts through July 21st.

New York Theatre Barn will host a free special event live stream of excerpts from the new civil rights musical Freedom Riders on Wednesday, February 24th, 2020 at 7PM EDT. The live 1-hour presentation will also feature a conversation with the writers and a special appearance by one of the last surviving Freedom Riders Charles Person. 

Amidst the coronavirus pandemic a young group of BIPOC artists came together to incorporate a nonprofit in San Diego, California.

Award winning musical theater writers Richard Allen and Taran Gray announced a free streaming Christmas special, WE NEED A LITTLE CHRISTMAS on December 22nd at 8pm and 11pm (ET). All money raised will go directly to the Family Promise non-profit organization.
