Welcome back Stranger Friends, and I hope you enjoyed week two of MADAM SECRETARY as much as I did. I think this episode really emphasized the balance the writers are achieving in mixing the politics, and the family life. While the episode and the title, 'Another Benghazi,' may be pulling from the current headlines a bit soon in my opinion, I think going at it from the private security angle was a winner. Myself, and quite a few others that saw the pilot, were questioning the mention of a third child at the Secretary's dinner last week with the King of Swaziland and his many wives. We only met two children that first episode, and I am glad our questions were answered.
Hello Stranger Friends, welcome as we begin our journey following CBS's latest entry into prime time political dramas, MADAM SECRETARY. I hope you will join me each week to compare notes, share critiques, high-five our agreements, and civilly discuss our disagreements. I have been excited for this show to launch and am extremely happy and grateful to BWW for giving me the opportunity to recap and review it each week. I feel the political drama has been contorted a little bit into the soapy waters of serial television lately, and really have been hoping to get back to some great writing, topical discussions, and fine acting, a la THE WEST WING. Truthfully, watching the first episode, I have high hopes that we are on our way with maybe one or two disappointments.
Barbara Hall, the creator of one of my favorite television shows, JOAN OF ARCADIA, has created and is Executive Producing with none other than Mr. Morgan Freeman, MADAM SECRETARY, a new CBS drama premiering this Sunday, September 21st, at 8pm. I am excited to be recapping and reviewing, along with live tweeting, each episode of this series for BroadwayWorld.com. CBS is showing extreme confidence in this show, and giving it a huge leg up in attracting their core audience, by giving it a prime time slot between two of their most watched shows, 60 MINUTES, and THE GOOD WIFE, on Sunday nights.

When you've been given the privilege to watch and, of course, listen to legendary Tony winner Jennifer Holliday sing live---in that signature inimitable style---it's practically akin to a religious experience. She is, to put it mildly, still one of the world's most treasured, gifted musical voices. Even more awesome? Holliday served as the finale headliner that capped off an impressive line-up of Broadway stars that included Erich Bergen, Rogelio Douglas, Jr., Danny Gurwin, and Tony nominee Chad Kimball. And the highly entertaining evening---a pleasant mixture of amusing anecdotes and enthralling showtune performances---was hosted by Holliday's Tony nominated DREAMGIRLS co-star, Obba Babatunde.
