BWW Review: THE MISFORTUNE OF THE ENGLISH, Orange Tree Theatre

Touching on nationalism, childish loyalty and what it means to be English, The Misfortune Of The English is Pamela Carter’s new play, inspired by tragic, true events. In April 1936 a group of 27 schoolboys are on a walking holiday in Nazi Germany’s Black Forest. By the end of the day, after collectively choosing a difficult route in terrible weather, five of them are dead.

BWW Review: THE TAXIDERMIST'S DAUGHTER, Chichester Festival Theatre

The novel is oozing with narrative potential and moody landscape, but surprisingly Chichester’s adaptation felt underwhelming.

BWW Review: WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION, London County Hall

Based on Agatha Christie’s 1925 short story, Witness For The Prosecution was well-established at London’s County Hall before the pandemic. It now makes a welcome return and is as ingenious as ever. We are all used to seeing television adaptations of Christie’s work, but Lucy Bailey’s creative version takes all the theatrics of a courtroom and translates it neatly into a truly immersive production.
