The premise is simple: it's the 90s and the Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra is travelling from Egypt to Petah Tikva to perform in a concert. Due to a language barrier, they end up in the tiny desert town of Bet Hatikva with little money, no hotel to check into, and a full day's wait until the next bus out of town. The next ninety minutes follow members of the band as they explore the town with their hosts. Café owner Dina (Chilina Kennedy), her employee Papi (Adam Gabay) and patron Itzik (Pomme Koch) each take a few members of the orchestra with them, and each provide a different look into Bet Hatikva, its residents, and their struggles. In its Toronto premiere this 10-time Tony winning musical, based on the film of the same name, is directed by David Cromer and presented by Mirvish.

Today BroadwayWorld Toronto is celebrating the anniversay of the now legendary Toronto production of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA which starred Rebecca Caine as Christine and Colm Wilkinson in the title role. The production, which ran for a decade and holds the record as the longest running musical in Toronto helped revitalize a struggling Canadian theatre scene and resulted in a surge of Canadian produced musical theatre.

Broadway's master songman, Mandy Patinkin, accompanied by Adam Ben-David on piano, will bring his newest theatre concert Mandy Patinkin in Concert: DIARIES, to the Ed Mirvish Theatre for two performances only - Tuesday November 12 and Thursday November 14 at 8PM.

The fourth West End Company of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child comprises Jamie Ballard as Harry Potter, Susie Trayling as Ginny Potter with Dominic Short as Albus Potter; Michelle Gayle as Hermione Granger, Rayxia Ojo as Rose Granger-Weasley and Thomas Aldridge as Ron Weasley; and James Howard as Draco Malfoy and Jonathan Case as Scorpius Malfoy.

Brooklyn the Musical, with a book, lyrics, and music by Mark Schoenfeld and Barri McPherson, will run at Greenwich Theatre from Friday 27 September - Saturday 19 October, 2019. Press night is Monday 30 September at 7,30pm.

Back by popular demand, THE BOOK OF MORMON, winner of nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, is pleased to announce a lottery ticket policy for the Toronto engagement of the National Tour, which begins June 11 at Toronto's Ed Mirvish Theatre and plays a limited 2 week engagement through June 23, 2019. 

Scooter Brown Band announced their “Story of My Life Tour” today which includes both headlining shows and dates supporting the Charlie Daniels Band, Dwight Yoakam and more. The name of the tour comes from the band's song “Story of My Life,” a relatable song to the working man and especially truthful for a touring musician, as they will be traveling across North America, playing shows in Ontario, Houston, Anchorage, Mississippi and more. The band will make their debut at the historic Grand Ole Opry on Wednesday, July 30 in Nashville, tickets can be purchased here.

Full casting has been announced for the sensational feel-good musical MAMMA MIA! which comes to Birmingham Hippodrome from Tue 12 - Sat 30 May 2020 as part of its UK & International Tour celebrating 20 years since MAMMA MIA! premiered in London in April 1999.

BroadwayWorld has learned Sonia Friedman, Colin Callender and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions with Canadian producer David Mirvish will bring the record-breaking, multiple-award-winning production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to Canada. This Canadian premiere will begin performances autumn 2020 exclusively at the Ed Mirvish Theatre in Toronto.

The principal casting for the first public performance of a new musical featuring the hits of Grammy-award-winning Canadian singer Anne Murray was revealed today.

FOREIGNER, the British-American rock band with 10 multi-platinum albums and sales exceeding 75 million, performed the final show in the Canadian leg of their Cold As Icetour in Halifax, NS on Sunday night.

Starring four outstanding Canadian actors and directed by Krista Jackson, this brilliant and audacious play is performed March 23 to April 14, 2019 at Toronto's CAA Theatre as part of the Off-Mirvish Season. 

Today Music Director Elisa Citterio unveiled Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra's 2019/20 season, which highlights the freshness and vigour at the heart of everything Tafelmusik undertakes. Old meets new in unprecedented ways, including Tafelmusik's first-ever foray into the music of the late Romantic composer Tchaikovsky, a new multimedia program by Alison Mackay, the return of Vesuvius Ensemble, six world premieres by living composers, and Tafelmusik premieres of Lotti's Missa Sapientiae and of Citterio's own orchestral arrangement of Bach's Goldberg Variations. Citterio's debut Tafelmusik recording, Vivaldi con amore, will be released in September 2019, and a live recording of A Handel Celebration takes place at Koerner Hall in May 2020. In November 2019 Tafelmusik returns to Europe for the first time in a decade, with soprano Karina Gauvin, and the critically acclaimed Safe Haven multimedia program will travel across Ontario in 2020.

The Mirvish Theatre has announced its upcoming 2019-2020 season, which will include Girl From The North Country! Following its West End run, as well as its off-Broadway run at The Public, the show has been rumored to come to Broadway this winter.

The Play That Goes Wrong, the Olivier Award-winning box office hit, today announces that a new cast at the Duchess Theatre from Tuesday 26th February 2019.

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, today announced the appointment of Opera Atelier founding Co-Artistic Directors Marshall Pynkoski and Jeannette Lajeunesse Zingg to the Order of Canada. This announcement comes on the heels of Opera Atelier's most extensive international touring in the company's 33-year history. This honour recognizes Pynkoski and Zingg's outstanding impact on the performing arts in Canada and their longtime commitment to the mentorship of young artists through The School of Atelier Ballet.

Before the show even begins, the voice of Andrew Lloyd Webber informs us all that the kids in SCHOOL OF ROCK play their instruments live. This becomes overwhelmingly impressive as the show progresses. SCHOOL OF ROCK: THE MUSICAL, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and book by Julian Fellows is an adaption of the successful Paramount movie starring Jack Black.
