BroadwayWorld is sad to share the news today that legendary filmmaker Rick McKay has passed away earlier this week. A longtime friend of the web site, and constant presence in the theatre world, McKay has long been at work on two sequels to his 2004 hit film, Broadway: The Golden Age.

After more than three decades of delighting audiences, award-winning ShowKids Invitational Theatre (SKIT) presents the magical family musical Mary Poppins with a cast that is nothing short of 'supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!' SKIT is working again with Flying by Foy to produce Mary's enchanted entrance. And audiences will 'step in time' to show-stopping numbers choreographed by SKIT veteran Krisy Nasto and Maria Mantak, who was recently inducted into the Perry Award Hall of Fame by the New Jersey Association of Community Theaters (NJACT).

As previously announced, Feinstein's/54 Below will present the rarely heard musical A Pound in Your Pocket as part of its popular Second Act Series on Wednesday, January 24th at 7:00pm. The very first collaboration from acclaimed songwriters Charles Strouse and Lee Adams, best known for Bye Bye Birdie, A Pound In Your Pocket is a delightful, Dickensian story about friendship and redemption. Strouse will be on hand at the one-night-only concert to greet fans and sign copies of his memoir, Put On A Happy Face.

On Sunday, November 19th, the United Palace of Cultural Arts will host their annual fundraiser, celebrating the theater's abundant history and recent reawakening with a special screening of the beloved movie musical 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' (1968).

The first Los Angeles based fundraiser for the newly formed The Dick Van Dyke Foundation for the Performing Arts was held November 4, 2017, at Garner Holt Productions factory in San Bernardino. A dinner, tour through the animatronic factory, demonstrations, silent auction and variety show hosted by Tom Bergeron ('Dancing with the Stars') and featuring a performance by Dick Van Dyke and the Vantastix, provided a magical experience to the nearly 200 guests in attendance at the sold out event.

Earlier today, Sardi's unveiled a caricature for showbiz legend Rose Marie, to coincide with 'Wait For Your Laugh: The Longest Career in Showbiz History,' starring Dick Van Dyke, Carl Reiner, Tim Conway, Peter Marshall and, of course, Miss Rose Marie. She wasn't able to make it to the unveiling, but check out a photo of the legend posing with her new portrait below!
