Birdland will kick-off their great week of programming with the following acts:

The Philly POPS and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts will present the School District of Philadelphia's All-City Jazz Festival. The day of free jazz performances by student and professional musicians will be held in the Kimmel Center's Perelman Theater and Commonwealth Plaza on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 from noon 9 p.m. This will be the POPS's fifth year presenting this event and the third year in partnership with the Kimmel Center.

Following the immense artistic success of JAZZED! The Philly POPS BIG Band with Terell Stafford in January, The Philly POPS has designated Terell Stafford as the Artistic Director for Jazz for The Philly POPS.

Lauded jazz vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater, accompanied by THE MEMPHIS SOULPHONY, will be bringing her latest show MEMPHIS: YES, I'M READY, based on her latest musical release Memphis: Yes, I'm Ready to The Wallis for one night only March 23, 2019. The most warm and delightful Ms. Bridgewater managed to entertain and enlightened me on the phone for an informative, heartfelt forty-five minutes.

Suede is returning to New Hope's RRazz Room New Hope after headlining with Melissa Etheridge and Sarah McLachlin, and tours including world renowned clubs like NYC's Birdland, Washington DC's Blues Alley, The Kennedy Center, Boston's Scullers Jazz Club, The RRazz Room venues in San Francisco and Philadelphia, and more. She is thrilled to celebrate her 10th appearance at The RRazz with her duo of Tomoko Ohno on piano and Amy Shook on bass ... ONE MORE TIME folks!

Joni Mitchell - one of the world's most-remarkable artists - turned 75 November 7, 2019. To celebrate this milestone, The Music Center, Los Angeles' premiere performing arts center, assembled an incredible group of singers and musicians at The Music Center's Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to perform Mitchell's songs at a pair of sold-out shows that garnered rave reviews by those in attendance. THE MUSIC CENTER PRESENTS JONI 75: A BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION, a DVD compilation of 21 of those standout performances, will be available on March 29, 2019, from Rhino for $19.98.

Multiple Grammy® Award-winning jazz pianist and world-renowned singer, Diana Krall, returns to the U.S in September. The 7-stop tour begins on the 12th at the Chateau St. Michelle Winery in Woodinville, WA and runs through the end of September, wrapping up in Indio, CA on Sept. 28th. Award-winning global entertainment and event distributor Trafalgar Releasing brought the filmed version of the star-studded tribute concert, The Music Center Presents Joni 75: A Birthday Celebration, to more than 410 movie theaters across the US and Canada on Thursday, February 7, for a one-night cinema event.  This successful theatrical release, which has already amassed more than half a million dollars at the box office and achieved the highest per screen average of all titles showing in more than 100 locations on Thursday, comes on the heels of Trafalgar Releasing's record-breaking release of Burn the Stage: the Movie featuring K-Pop sensation BTS, and the critically acclaimed Coldplay: A Head Full of Dreams, which both released in November 2018.

Honoring musical icon Joni Mitchell's legacy and 75th birthday, Decca Records will release The Music Center Presents Joni 75: A Birthday Celebrationon March 8, 2019. On Joni's 75th birthday last November, a star-studded roster of musicians gathered together to pay tribute to the legendary singer-songwriter. The evening was recorded and is now subsequently being released. It features performances by Brandi Carlile; Glen Hansard; Emmylou Harris; Norah Jones; Chaka Khan; Diana Krall; Kris Kristofferson; Los Lobos with La Marisoul, Cesar Castro & Xochi Flores; Graham Nash; James Taylor; Seal; Rufus Wainwright; and more. Today, the Recording Academy's Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion announced an unprecedented new initiative that aims to expand opportunities for female music producers and engineers. The Producer & Engineer Inclusion Initiative is the inaugural action of a larger strategy to address gender inequity in the music industry. According to a 2018 USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative study, only 2 percent of music producers and 3 percent of engineers/mixers across popular music are women. This initiative is the first step in a broader effort to improve those numbers and increase diversity and inclusion for all in the music industry.

The Philly POPS and the University of the Arts announced today a joint partnership to create The Philly POPS/UARTS High School All-Star Big Band. This band will be comprised of students selected for their demonstrated excellence in jazz performance. Applications are now being accepted and select students will be invited to audition. The HS All-Star Big Band will consider students in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia suburbs, New Jersey, and the Baltimore and Washington DC areas for membership.

April 12 marks the release of Acoustic Space, the first full-length installment in The Invisible Light trilogy helmed by Grammy- and Oscar-winning producer T Bone Burnett in collaboration with Jay Bellerose and Keefus Ciancia. The albums explore the idea that society has been subject to over a century of electronic programming, a “programming pandemic,” which is causing us to lose our ability to differentiate fact from fiction. Burnett describes the trilogy as “an experimental song cycle” which consists of a single piece of poetry broken down into distinct songs. The Invisible Light: Acoustic Space track “Being There” premieres today, listen/share HERE. The Philly POPS will offer free tickets for furloughed government employees during the federal government shutdown. Government employees may present their IDs at the Kimmel Center Box Office to receive one free, complimentary pair of tickets to JAZZED! running January 18, 19 and 20 (One pair per Government-issued employee ID).

The Recording Academy's GRAMMY Recordings® and Republic Records have revealed the track listing for the 2019 GRAMMY® Nominees album. Set for release on Jan. 25 in stores and via digital retailers, the latest installment of the best-selling series—now in its 25th year—features a collection of top-charting hits from many of this year's illustrious GRAMMY-nominated artists. A portion of album proceeds will benefit the year-round work of the GRAMMY Museum® and MusiCares®—two charitable organizations founded by the Recording Academy that focus on music education programs and critical assistance for music people in need.

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) today announced that David Foster, renowned musician, songwriter, composer, arranger and producer, will be recognized with the 2019 Humanitarian Award. The award honours Foster's lifelong dedication to philanthropy through his support of hundreds of charities, including his own non-profit organization, The David Foster Foundation, which raises organ donation awareness and provides financial support to Canadian families in need of life-saving transplants.
