Cambodian Rock Band begins as a father returns to Cambodia for the first time since he
fled the Khmer Rouge 30 years ago. The reason for his homecoming? His daughter is
prosecuting one of the political party's most notorious war criminals. From there, the story
goes back and forth in time, showing how the past affects who we are today, even when we
try to hide it.
Alley Theatre has announced Cambodian Rock Band as the second Hubbard production in the 2022-23 season. Co-producing with Berkeley Repertory Theatre, the Signature Theatre Production of Cambodian Rock Band is by Lauren Yee, featuring songs by Dengue Fever, and directed by Chay Yew and runs from January 20 – February 12, 2023.

Featuring actor/musicians who perform a mix of contemporary Dengue Fever hits and classic Cambodian oldies, playwright Lauren Yee brings to life the Cambodian rock scene of the 60’s and 70’s, a movement cut short by the Khmer Rouge’s brutal attempt to erase the music (and musicians) once and for all.
