Charlie Blackwell Symposium Scholarship Announced for BIPOC Stage Managers

In partnership with Broadway Stage Managers, Narda E. Alcorn, Lisa Dawn Cave, Beverly Jenkins, Kenneth J. McGee, & Cody Renard Richard, the Broadway Stage Management Symposium awards five scholarships for stage managers of color to attend the annual professional development and networking conference for stage managers, the Broadway Stage Management Symposium. 

2021 Del Hughes Awards for Lifetime Achievement in the Art of Stage Management Announced

The Stage Managers’ Association has announced its annual Del Hughes Awards for Lifetime Achievement in the Art of Stage Management.  The 2021 honourees are distinguished theatrical stage managers Ruth E. Kramer and Lynda A. Lavin, television stage manager Arthur Lewis, and in-memoriam legendary Broadway stage manager Charles Allen Blackwell.

The Stage Managers' Association Presented its Annual Del Hughes Awards for Lifetime Achievement

On Monday, September 21, 2020, the Stage Managers' Association presented its annual Del Hughes Awards for Lifetime Achievement in the Art of Stage Management in a virtual ceremony to two distinguished honourees, Philadelphia based stage manager Patreshettarlini (Pat) Adams and Chicago based stage manager Alden J. Vasquez.  In addition to these Lifetime Achievement Awards, the SMA recognized Robert I. Sutherland-Cohen with The Founders Award.

Dean Emeritus Peter Sargent Has Passed Away

Peter Sargent, the founding dean of the Webster University Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts, a mentor to some of the biggest stars on Broadway and in Hollywood, and a recognized local, state and national leader in the performing arts, passed away this afternoon, a statement from his family said.

The Stage Managers' Association (SMA) presented its annual Del Hughes Awards for Lifetime Achievement in the Art of Stage Management to three stage managers from the worlds of Broadway, Off-Broadway, Touring, Regional Theatre, and Opera - Rich Costabile, Barbara Donner, and Mary K Klinger. In addition to the three Lifetime Achievement Awards, the SMA recognized Janet Friedman with The Founders Award, a special recognition for her many years of service to the SMA and for embodying the values expressed by the Founders of the SMA. The event was celebrated at Connelly's Times Square on September 23rd, 2019. The SMA thanks Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids for their leading sponsorship of the event.

Actors' Equity Mourns Passing Of Councillor Malcolm D. Ewen

Mary McColl, Executive Director of Actors' Equity Association, has issued the following statement about Malcolm Ewen, a longtime Chicago-based stage manager who served as a National Councillor representing members on the Central Regional Board of Actors' Equity. Ewen passed away last night surrounded by loved ones following a battle with cancer. 

Stage Manager Malcolm Ewen Named Steppenwolf Ensemble Member

Steppenwolf Theatre Company announced today the addition of longtime stage managerMalcolm Ewen into the world-renowned Steppenwolf ensemble. Ewen has worked at Steppenwolf since 1987 and has stage managed more than 40 shows and taken four Steppenwolf productions to Broadway-including The Grapes of Wrath and Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? both of which won Tony Awards.

Joseph Drummond, Goodman Theatre Production Stage Manager To Receive 2016 Corona Award

Eclipse Theatre Company announces its Eighth Annual Corona Award, to be presented to Joseph Drummond, Goodman Theatre Production Stage Manager. The Corona Award honors an individual who has played an important role in supporting and nurturing the growth of the Chicago theater community as well as small- to medium-sized ensembles such as Eclipse Theatre. The Corona Award derives its name from the Latin word, meaning crown, as well as outer atmosphere of the sun most easily seen during a total eclipse.

SMA Presents 'Theater - A View From The Wings' 11/8

For the first time in its 25-year existence, The Stage Managers' Association will host an all-day conference entitled, 'Theater - A View From the Wings: Conversations with Directors, General Managers and Stage Managers' on Monday, November 8th beginning at 10 AM at Connolly's Klub 45 at 121 West 45th Street in Manhattan.
