Who really cares about spring? Awards season has arrived- the only time of the year that really matters to Broadway fans everywhere. The 2016 Tony nominees were announced earlier this week, with a record 16 nods going to HAMILTON, and show like SHUFFLE ALONG, SHE LOVES ME and LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT also picking up a considerable amount of recognition.
Just yesterday the nominees flocked to the Paramount Hotel, where they met with the press for the first time since getting the big news. The Tony Awards Administration Committee met today for the third time this season to determine the eligibility of 11 Broadway productions for the 2016 American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards®, presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. The Tony Awards Administration Committee will meet a total of four times throughout the 2015-2016 season to decide the eligibility for the 70th Annual Tony Awards.

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) and Columbia University School of the Arts (Carol Becker, Dean of Faculty) have just announced Columbia@Roundabout, an initiative aimed at educating and developing the next generation of playwrights and theatre administrators, as both institutions celebrate their 50th anniversaries. No other collaborative partnership in the New York area brings together an esteemed Ivy League MFA program with a Tony Award- winning not-for-profit theatre. The initiative is made possible by a grant from the Tow Foundation.

Just last night, Roundabout Theatre Company hosted the 50th Anniversary Gala: 'Spring Gala 2016: Celebrating 50 Years of Extraordinary Theatre' in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria (301 Park Avenue, NYC). The evening was a celebration of Roundabout's 50th Anniversary and recognized the accomplishments of six-time Tony winner Audra McDonald and Roundabout's Chairman of the Board Tom Tuft and present them with The Jason Robards Award for Excellence in Theatre.

David Furr has bruises; lots and lots of bruises.
In his stellar performance as Gary Lejeune in the current revival of Michael Frayne's hilarious NOISES OFF, Furr slides on a floor scattered with sardines, stumbles down one staircase. slips across a balcony, gets his foot caught in a box of theatrical props, wields a hatchet and falls down yet another staircase which crumbles apart as he does so. It's an understatement to say that his role is physically demanding.
