Crimson Square's 2022-2023 Season opens with LOST LAKE by David Auburn, award winning playwright of PROOF.

Jonathan Larson's musical tells the story of an aspiring musical theatre writer having a quarter-life crisis. The reason to see this production in particular is Lauren Steele. A Drammy-winning actor (and also a massively talented singer-songwriter) with a powerhouse voice, Steele steals this show.

Manhattan Theatre Club will present the world premiere of Summer, 1976 written by Pulitzer Prize winner David Auburn (Proof, The Columnist), starring Tony Award® & Academy Award® nominee Laura Linney (My Name is Lucy Barton, “Ozark”) and directed by Tony winner Daniel Sullivan (Proof, Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes).

Godspell will be presented in Johnson Hall at Third Baptist Church, opening on March 17, 2023, and running though Saturday, March 25, 2023. Tick, Tick...BOOM! will be presented in Johnson Hall at Third Baptist Church opening on Sept. 29, 2023, and running though Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023.

As is often the case the BTG production is a high-quality production where seemingly everyone involved has played their role and done their work well. There is, however, one aspect I certainly did not expect. Laughter. At several points throughout the three acts in 2-hours, audience members responded with giggles, which I found rather confusing

Based on Bram Stoker's classic novel of gothic horror, the legendary vampire Dracula descends on the Colonial to close out the summer season.  Directed by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award Winner, David Auburn, Dracula has been striking fear into the hearts of people around the world for over a hundred years.

The work of Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning composer Jonathan Larson returns to Portland Center Stage after a 7-week run of his blockbuster musical Rent. Larson's autobiographical musical tick, tick … BOOM! was written before Rent and is in many ways its origin story. Featuring a similarly rocking score, it offers a backstage tour of the love and sweat Larson put into making his Broadway musical dreams a reality.

The full season will feature B.R.O.K.E.N code B.I.R.D switching, a world premiere play and an award recipient of the GRANTS FOR ARTS PROJECTS from the National Endowment for the Arts; Once, a Tony Award-winning musical; Songs For a New World, the first musical by a Tony Award winner; Dracula, a classic gothic tale of horrors; and Edward Albee's Seascape, a Pulitzer Prize-winning play.

The Pulitzer Prize Board has just announced that Fat Ham has won the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Other finalists included: Selling Kabul, and Kristina Wong, Sweatshop Overlord.

Over the course of the last 26 years somewhere along the line of learned history in the depths of musical theatre you have heard the name Jonathan Larson, synonymous with the 1996 Rock musical RENT that changed the face of musical theatre in its time. Boasting a rock score and groundbreaking storylines such as the rise of the AIDS epidemic sweeping the country, RENT was unlike anything in its conception. However, Jonathan Larson and his stamp on modern musical theatre came into fruition before RENT. Trying to establish himself in the live theatre arena since the early 1980s, Larson began performing his Semi-Autobiographical Rock Musical Tick, Tick...Boom! in the early 90’s as a solo piece. Tragically Jonathan Larson passed away in 1996 of a rare heart condition before he was able to feel the immense magnitude of his fame.
