Northwestern University's 2010 Summer Music Theatre Festival Kicks Off 6/25

New works and old favorites performed by Broadway stars and Northwestern music theatre students are part of the 2010 Summer Music Theatre Festival (June 25 to Aug. 7) presented by the Theatre and Interpretation Center (TIC) at Northwestern University.

Last night, Monday June 21, the Kleban Foundation hosted a cocktail reception honoring the winners of the 20th Annual Kleban Awards for the most promising musical theater lyricist and librettist. 2010 Kleban Award winners are Peter Mills (the most promising musical theater lyricist) and Barry Wyner (the most promising musical theater librettist). According to Variety, Peter Mills and Barry Wyner will be awarded the 2010 Kleban Prize in Musical Theater on June 21. Each will receive a prize of $100,000 at the ceremny which will be held at ASCAP.

It's that time of the year again for the recognition of some amazing up and coming talent on the theatre scene, specifically, the 20th Annual Kleban Awards. The Kleban Foundation is pleased to announce that the 20th Annual Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theater lyricist has gone to Peter Mills and the award for the most promising musical theater librettist has gone to Barry Wyner. The 2010 awards will be presented on June 21, 2010, in a private ceremony (by invitation only) at ASCAP.

Northwestern University has added a revised version of YOU'RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN to their Summer Music Theatre Festival. CHARLIE BROWN will be performed July 1 through August 8. As previously announced a musical tribute to Tony Award-winning composer Stephen Schwartz will be performed with vocalists Capathia Jenkins ('Caroline, Or Change') and Shoshana Bean ('Wicked'), Tony-nominated composer and lyricist Craig Carnelia, Grammy Award-nominated composer and lyricist Andrew Lippa, and Grammy Award-winning Nashville singer and songwriter Lari White.
