Collaboraction Theatre Company will launch its 2019-20 mainstage season at Kennedy-King College (KKC) at 63rd and Halsted in the college's 292-seat, state-of-the-art mainstage theater, with its fourth annual Peacebook Festival, Thursday through Saturday, August 15-17.

Shirley MacLaine caught the Tony Award winning "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Oklahoma!" at the Circle in the Square over the weekend and congratulated the cast backstage after the show. 

We can placate a certain segment of society by providing 'enrichment' courses in the arts, but it should no longer be a mystery that you can't achieve holistic education without a strong emphasis in the arts. The US Bureau of Economic Analysis recently released an astounding statistic that reports over $763 Billion of contribution by the arts sector to the US economy. That's around 5 million workers in the industry, which accounts for hundreds of billions of dollars in compensation. Yet here we are, still waiting for an increase in financial support for arts programs in the schools. You can talk about Broadway, Hollywood, and TV culture all day, but young people are tomorrow's audiences and we owe it to the industry to develop an enlightened culture of young participants and consumers of the arts.

After a critically acclaimed run this spring, A WHITE MAN'S GUIDE TO RIKERS ISLAND returns this summer for an extended run. Based on a true story, it is written by Richard Roy (Richard III with Denzel Washington) and Eric C. Webb, directed by Thomas G. Waites (Awake and Sing! starring Frances McDormand, King Richard III starring Al Pacino), and stars Richard Roy and Connor Chase Stewart. 

The 13th Annual Broadway's Rising Stars concert, taking place at The Town Hall (123 W. 43rd Street) on Monday, July 22nd at 8:00pm, brings back one of its own, this year's Tony Award winner for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Rodger's and Hammerstein's Oklahoma!, Ali Stroker. Broadway's Rising Stars is the national showcase event for recent graduates of Performing Arts schools.

First up for this talented bunch of professionals is the world premiere of a new play - 'THE FAVORITE', by Los Angeles Playwright Joe Correll. Acclaimed performers Matt Cusson, Celisse Henderson, and Erica Sweany will join the one-night only, TodayTix Presents celebration of "Brownstone," a new musical written by singer/songwriter Brian Gallagher. The concert, held at City Winery (155 Varick St.) on May 28, will also feature vocals by Tony Nominee and NBC "Smash" star Megan Hilty.
