FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW , Broadway's Supper Club, presents FREEDOM RIDERS: The Civil Rights Musical in Concert on January 4th, 2018. In 1961, civil rights activists rode interstate buses into the stubbornly segregated South. They did this to challenge the non-enforcement of the Supreme Court's decision that segregated public buses were unconstitutional. Somebody had to do it, and on May 4, 1961, 13 brave souls (seven black, six white) ventured forth from D.C. to Dixie via Greyhound and Trailways. They were followed by 423 others in at least 60 other Freedom Ride forays into the inhospitable South. (more...)

The New York Musical Festival (NYMF) announced today the winners of the 2017 NYMF Awards for Excellence, which were awarded on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Hudson Terrace (621 W 46th St, New York, NY 10036). The 2017 NYMF Award for Best Musical Sponsored by Play-by-Play was awarded to GENERATION ME, with the Show-Score Best of Fest Awards for Readings, Concerts/Events and Productions, going to CHRISTMAS IN HELL, DORIAN GRAY, and ERROL AND FIDEL, respectively. GENERATION ME took home the most awards, with GEORAMA: AN AMERICAN PANORAMA TOLD ON 3 MILES OF CANVAS, ERROL AND FIDEL, and FREEDOM RIDERS taking home multiple prizes as well. Tonight (Wednesday, April 5th), after their evening performance, members of the national touring cast of KINKY BOOTS will appear at Oak Lawn's Round Up Saloon for LASHES OFF: AN AFTER-HOURS BENEFIT CONCERT at 11:00pm. The evening will benefit True Colors Fund, which was co-founded by KINKY BOOTS songwriter Cyndi Lauper to help end LGBTQ youth homelessness. Broadway In Chicago has announced Evan Rachel Wood (Thirteen, The Wrestler, Across the Universe) will join the cast of “FOR THE RECORD: DEAR JOHN HUGHES,” an immersive, concert event showcasing the works of beloved Chicago native John Hughes, at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place (175 E. Chestnut) the second week of performances March 12 – 15, 2015. Evan Rachel Wood will replace Rumer Willis who will play “Basket Case” in the first week of performances March 5 – 8, 2015.
